yes it is different when you are an owner operator i guess, but marten did not work for me,i sat 3 days at the truck stop, and the customer closed early,i was due for a pick up,but couldnt because the weather was too bad, then when i asked about layover pay i was told by my fleetmanager that marten dont pay layover pay due to weather, and the statement about not being happy with anywhere i go ,well everything dont work for every body,by the way how many companies have you worked for,or did you just start and stop with marten, and by the way maybe you could help me locating the $1.50 scales, and most loads i picked up the majority was 39,000 and up.

no actually I worked for one other company before Marten and that was for 6 months, was company driver for 1 1/2 to 2 years and then bought my first truck from them.
and as far as the $1.50 scales, there are a lot of loads that i didnt have to scale.so i guess you owe them for the ones you didnt have to scale.

no sir i actually lost money on scaleing, because the majority of my loads were heavy, beer, yogurt, water, etc. now there were a few light loads, but only a few, most of my loads were 39k and up,and by the way i'm not here to debate my experience,im simply stating what i've experienced with this company, everyone on here have different opinions about various companies, and besides if love marten that much, way would anything i say on here even matter to you, because you're happy with them doesnt mean that everyone is,from my experience things are'nt always better in blue, but thats not to say they are the worse company, they have good benefits,i never had a problem with hometime, but the 1.50 scale i did'nt care for, when i had to pay 8.50 per scale, and the prepass that i had to pay for my self as a company driver,i feel that marten is just flat out cheap on somethings, and to close you like it there fine,i didnt,i dont want to pay to have a job,and marten does have there favorites, and maybe you are one of them.

maybe you do owe them money,so why dont you give them there money that you owe them then, and you cant compare my loads with your loads, because you are an o/o and your head is above water you can see nothing wrong with your company thats find but if you took a survey why would drivers with 8+ yrs with the company decide to vacate because they were tired of the bean counting? you can have marten i'd rather go to work and be home every night being out there stuck in snow and told that there is no layover pay is flat out bs to me,now i know layover pay doesn't make you any difference, but to those company drivers it just feels good to know that if you are shut down due to circumstances that are beyond your control your company comes through for you,and maybe its another form of thanks. but i hope you continue to have success in all that you do,as for me i will continue to make it,what will feed my house may not feed your house and visverse.

I don't think I'd call Marten cheap. I think that they got tired of drivers scaling 10,000 pound loads and turning the tickets in showing that it was not even possible to have an overweight issue. The only reason they give the $1.50 per load is so that you can check the on-board scales from time to time. My experience is that the tractor scale is spot on 95% of the time and the trailer scales are normally out of calibration but usable once you find the 34,000 point.
I drive for Marten. I don't pay for a pre-pass because I don't have one, and I don't want it. The number of miles I can drive in a week is slightly less on average because of this. Most of the time I don't drive the maximum number of miles that I can in theory anyway.

As I heard it, Marten does not chain ( at least since I last checked) so why do they send trucks into the NW and not want to pay layover time? Sounds wierd to me.

Making a Company Driver pay for prepass and scales? thats just plain being cheap. A company driver should not have to pay for it.

I will say that most of their drivers seem happy at that company conpaired to others. But then it is refers, so how happy can you ever be?

Ok, just kidding, to each his/her own.

they dont want you to chain but you can if you want to take the chance, they dont say you CANT

as far as prepass you want it you pay for it plain and simple.

and the scales I been over the road for 12 years and if you have to pay to scale you will make a better decision on the loads that you do have too,but they do pay you $1.50 per trip.

Sorry, but I don't have much need for a company that questions your descision making before you have given them a reason to question it.

They are just using that copout to justify a chargeback to all drivers on a company expence . I have'nt had to deal with a company like that since around 92 which by the way was the last time I pulled refers OTR (KLLM).

Yep, no more gate fees, wash outs, pallet exchanges, reefer fuel, reefer breakdowns, lumpers, sitting in a dirt lot for hours waiting for my truck number to be called when I should be sleeping becuase 100 drivers have the same delivery time for 3 unloading docks, etc... man it's starting to bring back the horrors of the past.

Marten has been going downhill steadily for a few years now. With operating costs going thru the roof I don't see how it would make sense to lease a truck to them at only .85cpm and drive 10% of your miles for free since they calculate miles based on the age-old household goods map. Marten does NOT pay their O/Os layover at all. They only pay detention time in certain cases if your load is not ready 2 hours past your appt. time. or past the time it was scheduled to be ready on a spot load.
