I find it hard to believe that a Amercian truck would be safer than a European. There is no way that a traditional American cab in aluminum would pass the Swedish cab safety test as it's too weak and in a front collision the engine would enter the cab as it sits so high in the chassie.
And add to that the weak drum breaks in American trucks.

Spochen and nicka scania Thank this.

So you would rather be right there in the very front for a front end collision instead of some feet back w/ engine and frame to somewhat protect you? The engine might enter the cab if you were to hit a very large object or occasionally in a collision w/ a smaller vehicle. But go smash into about anything in a cabover and let us know how many Chiclets you have left. That is old technology over here. You drive what fit your markets and roads best and we do the same . Simple as that. If Euro style trucks made more money they would be everywhere in US. That is the bottom line.

    trucks are like women----
its all in wehter you want the old frumpy housewife---or you want the good looking one
if you want a good looking one go with a nice long nose--may not be the best but it looks mighty fine
if you like the one that gets the job done, but sure isnt going to win any beauty contests---well there is always volvo---the eu models are even below that

Volvo is the only manufacture to do so and they do show the test on their website.

let me disagree. A mounth ago our company's Volvo FH rear ended ZIL container hauler. Yeah, Swedish caibin is really tought, but we decided to repare cabin and realised that it would better to get new one... substructure was bent... we had to weld new U-bars in!

The same accident happend with International 9200 near Rostov, russia.. Yep, we had to change hood, windshield smashed with hood, bumper, interccoler, headlamps... but, we spent twice less, and we did it in 3 days (w/o painting)... not 3 weeks

In this web site it's hard to talk about the European Trucks.
The european truck is a State of Art machine in others Words
they are amazing!!!!!I live in the U.S but once I finish my Novel
About the Euro Truck Heart I will be visiting those trucks.
I am fanatic for European trucks.

In EU lenth limit is 16.5 m, in some other Europe countries - 20, 22.5 ore 25m.
That's why they build COE trucks. But... they want to change standards and let longer and heavier (up to 38 t payload) trucks run over Europe.

There are good things that come to USA from Europe, like ABS and ECAS. ABS is standard for US trucks now, ECAS is rare system. The next step - EBS and disk brakes. More $$$ for maintanace, but... in our company accident repare costs for old styl drum brake equiped trucks are more then twice higher comparing with EBS with ESP trucks. With EBS on trailer only Jack-Knife accidents are rare, less colisions, roll over accidents are possible when truck runs out of road only (RSS -roll stability system and ecas saves more $$$ they cost).

So these systems will appeare soon, insuarence companies love them :biggrin_25523:

Euro trucks would of course be longer if the law was letting them.
Thats not the case now and that is nothing to discuss.

Most western european laughs at Usa because you are left behind in development.
I´m not talking only about trucks now and I´m not saying it to get you guys mad. It´s just a fact.

That why I´m curious about Us trucks..
I would really like to try one some time.
