Don't mean to drag up a old thread but I have some experience on this topic. I was hired full time P&D driver in Sept 07. Jan 08 I had a idiot 4 wheeler slam on his breaks in front of me to stop for a yellow light. Witch cause me to rear end him. OD terminated me for this. I have a very good terminal manager that informed me I had 30 days to appeal the accident review committee ruling. Witch I did. With letters of recommendation for former employers, fellow employees, and even the mayor of the town I live in. The committee changed their ruling and I had my job back. Then in Oct of 08 the lay offs hit our terminal. We are a small terminal so they only wanted to lay off one driver. Guess who that was. Thats right it was me. Again my terminal manager is a good guy. He told me I could take complete lay off or stay on as part time, just to fill in for vacations and such. I told him I would stay part time until I could find another job. That was before I knew how hard it is to get a driving job with a rear end accident on your record. Now it is 2 years since the accident and I am still at OD. The part time work turned in to doing line haul out for a week at a time and making good money. But I am still part time with no insurance, no vacation time, and no pay raises. Luckily we got insurance through my wifes job. I still cleared 50k for the year. It is a good company to work for. They are just like a lot of trucking company's right now just trying to get through the freight slump.
As of last week they hired 2 line haul drivers in St. Louis so hopefully things are starting to get better.
Is it worth me to even try to find a better job or should I just ride it out?

Sorry for the long winded post.

I'd ride it out if I were you, if you get another year between you and the accident, it will help you get on somewhere else. The bottom line is that I don't think you will find anything better until then and maybe not even then.

Everybody says old dominion is such a good company to work for I couldn't disagree more.I was a p@d driver for about 6 months and quit.not paying overtime till after 60 hours is a complete ripoff and illegal in ny.I don't know how they get away with it but its pretty scummy to steal money from drivers trying to feed their familys.anyways job was terrible very unorganized and poorly run going to stops with nobody there wrong adresses on bills late dispatch then send truck out with 20 stops at 1 in afternoon.total joke.I now have a real job where they don't rip drivers off and actually get freight delivered on time.very lucky.wake up od drivers you're getting ripped off there is way better out there don't buy their" family" bs they know there screwing you

Well what you described in your original post pretty much sounds like normal LTL local P&D to me. I worked it for several years, but not for OD.

I have a friend who does work for them. He went through the changeover when OD took over UW. Even though he had been with UW for many years, they made him do a complete new hire process to just stay on the job he had been doing for so long. AND he lost his seniority. Sure didn't sound right to me. . .

FWIW, trucking companies are exempt from having to pay overtime here in Utah. So most of them WON'T. No matter how much OT you put in, it is all paid at "straight pay."
