I am a traveling salesman in the trucking industry but I drive a small four wheeler so a microwave or foreman grill is out of the question. I am thinking of putting in a powered cooler though.
I started this job 3 years ago and I am starting to notice the lack of energy and steady weight gain. I get to sleep in a hotel every nite and some have breakfast which i hardly ever eat.
My eating habits include bagel in the morning with cream cheese but thats hardly ever. If I eat lunch which is hardly ever its fast food or subway but you can only eat so much subway. Dinner I always eat and have steak with a salad and a few greens. I have cut beer out which has helped and I drink 2-3 16 oz. water bottles.
I hardly ever eat breakfast or lunch and always eat dinner. I will include a Red Bull and Snickers if I get tired and sometimes beef jerky.
If any of you can help me with something that has helped you I would appreciate it.
Looking for Truck Drivers diet!

I can see a huge part of your problem with no further questions being asked..
You're packing the vast majority of your fat and calorie intake into one small portion of time that usually within a few hours of bedtime. Calories eaten during that time frame are generally stored as fat.
Eat breakfast and lunch and cut the size of dinner.
As amtter of fact, eat your dinner at lunchtime, and a "snack"
at dinner time and I'll bet you start losing some weight.Independent, bulldozerbert, Texas-Nana and 1 other person Thank this. -
Truckers also have a key item that you lack. Distance from building where we park. Your probably parking with in a 100 feet of where you sleep or eat. Try to either park a greater distance away or to get some walking. Walk around the hotel building twice.
I agree your calories are way wrong at the end of day only. Try 16 ounces of OJ and a slice of toast. Your brain actually needs one slice of bread a day just to be able to think.
If having lunch is such a chore. Try having a glass of V-8.
Use these times as a way to calm down. Read a newspaper or something online (lol truckersreport).
You dont need gobs of calories to get through the day. Sometimes even a salad is a meal in its self. -
Guy is worried about weight gain and you say huge problem.....in other words she is saying your huge and need to lose weight....
GuysLady Thanks this. -
I have been gaining weight the past year for the same reason he is. I do not eat enough, nor do I eat enough meals each day.
I grab my coffee in the morning, and then stop when my hours are up and eat. I eat way to much at dinner time and not much else during the day.
Though I will say way too much is a burger and fry's, or a portion of food on a truck stop menu. I normally cannot finish any of those. Buffet's are out of the question. Just a waste of money on bad food.
Still I have gone from 220 to 260.
I have taken health classes in college, I know the right way to eat, just cannot seem to ever do it on a regular basis. No time.
Then I get on night runs and it is worse.
My last body fat analysis says I need to weigh 205 as a healthy weight. Now I just need to somehow make the time to start working my way back down to that.GuysLady Thanks this. -
If you have time, and are in a safe enough place, try walking for a little bit. I try to walk at least 1/2 hour to an hour everyday. I'm not losing that much weight, but not gaining either. Also try to eat small meals during the day. Just light and healthy snacks, veggies or fruit. Not eating can cause you to gain weight also.
tut and bulldozerbert Thank this. -
Coffee and a cigarette. Fruity-sugar pie or doughnuts with another coffee. Truck stop hot dog and a coke. More cigarettes through the day. Sitting all day with no activity to speak of. Beef jerky and chips with another coke. A slice or two of pizza with a sugary, caffeine laden "energy" drink. Maybe a snickers later with a bologna sandwich. Can't ignore that bag of joo-joo's of one sort or another...
I have no idea how some may eat and activity levels performed, but if the above is anything close to a persons lifestyle, well, can you spell "diabetes" or "stroke" or "heart/vascular disease" or "high blood pressure" or "COPD" (that one's easy to spell, actually!) and on and on and on... Then, we all wonder what happened to any so-and-so who finally reaped the reward.
Anyone else think we should start paying more attention to our health? I know I haven't been over the road yet and perhaps I'll eat my words, no pun intended, but I can't help but think there's a little guy or gal on all our shoulders telling us "put down the doughnut, pick up the bananna or salad and get out for a half hour fast-paced walk"...
Ok, off my lil' platform and back to my m&m's. -
How about coffee, smokes, nothing for 10 hours, then a med size meal with sweet tea.
LOL, that is my life. I do not eat the junk food. I do not eat at all.
I park a long way from truck stops most of the time, but I do not go out of my way for distance.
Gain weight anyway. Body is on starvation mode all the time.
and tut is an idiot saying crap that should not be here.
Most people that complain about over weight drivers have no idea what they are talking about. They are either outside the industry, or they are skinny people that could not gain weight if they ate at a buffet 3 meals a day.
Yes, I care about my health. But finding the time to deal with it is another matter.
His type of "advice" can go away. -
Eating more than once a day is a key. Protein and carbs of some type in the morning are needed. Your body needs the fuel. One that I read several years ago follows along GuysLadys suggestions . . . Eat breakfast like a prince/princess, lunch like a king/queen and dinner like a pauper. Gotta give your body time to burn off those calories.
Trying to fit in some sort of exercise during the day is also a good idea as others have suggested. Gets the blood moving, and besides burning some calories and recharging you, it can help avoid some other health problems that come from sitting most of the day.
I will still indulge in my sweets, my soda, and other things of that nature. I indulge in that stuff in moderation though. If you have a craving for something, giving in to that craving in a SMALL way is better than ignoring it and binging big time later. Living on rabbit food and eating 'healthy' constantly is boring.GuysLady Thanks this. -
Go no/low carb so you can eat all the sausage, burgers(no buns), steak and bacon you can throw down...If you eliminate breads(made with white flour) and sugar, you can pig out and not gain weight!!!!!
