I'm goona be very quite then , cause i'm oldee ,but yes i rember those long days, i took off from nw washton state didnt stop till i got too lousnna ,basicly you can run it if and only if you knew the roads and the right times for traffic, i made it too gainsville fl 2 full days ahead of time opps, i only stopped at lousnna ,and yes i had qual-com on truck too, but what happen too me i found out years latter, was i get into truck, get so focused on my run, get my litte brain fired up, then what would happen i focused everything out, everything such as traffic , people everything and just stare straight ahead , o i stop for lights if i had too , but most time's i was 2 lane thru small towns , im not sure what you call that cond, but i never did it again nor i ever will ,now when i hit my time , i have a alarm clock on dash , i count my boxs off and if alarm clock goes off , i stop driving then i find a place too park, i rember those days too well, lucky we didnt kill someboby off or a family, just log it legal you be fine, the day of the rengrade is over smoky and bandit out en header east bound Everett.

It's refreshing to read that not everyone will risk everything for a few bucks...Rerun said the same, he logs it as it happens...

 

Yes, and the rest of us are clearly just a menace to society. You need to learn the difference between safe and legal. I think a lot of us are eager to see how it goes for you once you get on the road. Your holier-than-thou attitude is insulting to those of us that are actually out here dealing with these things. Not every log falsification is to run 3 days straight with no sleep. Some of us just want to get home or take a nap without interfering with our home time or paycheck.

 

You're a real live person as well and you have a responsibilty to obey the law. It's not the dispatcher's responsibility to keep you honest it's yours. It's my responsibility to be honest, to log legal and to run legal. It's my responsibility to stand up to anyone who wants me to do wrong whether it's my dm, fleet manager, customer or the tooth fairy.

 

I'm one of those "old drivers" that walstib is referring to...I used to "do what it takes" to get it done and it was more hassle than it was worth and it didn't pay enough for the risk involved!

This walstib guy is speaking from a position of ignorance and lack of experience...BUT!

He's right!

I run completely legal and I log it as I do it and I have for the last 20 years or so...And guess what!
I make a good living and I get plenty of rest and it all seems to be working out fine for me!

Why does it work for me when some of the others on this board seem to think it's impossible to make it running legal?

Who knows?

One thing is sure....I don't haul cheap freight and I will not run illegal because some idiot at a desk wants me to!

Can the holier than thou attitude! It is exceedingly irritating even if you happen to be right about something!
Because you have never been out here in the real world doing this job, You have no idea what you will experience when you actually get out here and yet you have the gall to come in here and talk down to men and women that have been doing this job for many years under circumstances that would make YOU wet your pants and run for home!

The industry is changing, It has been changing for about 20 years and some of us have seen the changes coming and have adjusted accordingly and are not going to be as adversly affected by the changes yet to come as the guys that have not seen all of this coming and have continued with "Business As Usual" for the last few years!

You and many others like you (students and newbies) seem to think that CSA 2010 and EOBR's are going to miraculously "fix" everything and that all of the of the "evil" old school drivers are going to dissappear and leave the way clear for you guys to come in and "do it the way it ought to be done"...

Many of us "old school" drivers will continue to work and make money and deal with the changes just like we have always done long after most of you newbies and students are back home crying about how ###### up the trucking industry is when the only problem with the industry is that YOU people couldn't handle it!

I wish you the best of luck at this but with the attitude you display, You're gonna have a rough time at it!

I would be willing to bet that not a single driver here has not fudged their book. Whether it be by 15 minutes or several hours it is all still a lie.

Im not saying that it can't be done and still make a descent check at the end of the week. Im saying that it is impractical to do so.

Think about it. You stopped at a rest area for 5 or 10 minutes to do your duty and you jump back in and up the road you go. Is it realistic to log that 10 minutes, well by the time you dig out your book and draw a line and fill in the town info it is probably 15 minutes, or is it more practical to skip that 15 minutes and move it to the end of the day?

No you should not run the rubber off the rims for 20 hours straight but I will say that if im within an hour to my drop, and Im out of hours, I will be making it there and then catch my 10. All the while my book will say I did it legally.

 

Who are these inexperienced drivers criticizing the experienced drivers about the way they are doing their jobs? Hmmmm
