Great post Romans! So does KLLM have their own training school? Is so, how was it? So far, how is your trainer? Also, what kind of equipment do they have?

as far as I know, KLLM does NOT have their own school. I got the state of Alabama to pay for my school through WIA

My trainer? Seems like a nice guy. Ex-Army, Vietnam vet, who is just a TAD on the drill sgt side of how to train (which is fine, I liked Basic Training) We differ on alot of political and religious beliefs, BUT, so far we are able to talk about them without any flare ups or tempers getting ruffled.

His equipment? He drives a 09 FL Cascadia. NICE truck, but the clutch is unlike anything I have ever driven.

Well, back to the truck I go. Will post again when I get access.

Sounds like your getting some decent seat time. Best thing is that you're getting along with your trainer and that makes things SO much better. Thanks for the update. Keep 'em coming and be safe out there!

Yep, you got close if you were in Geismar. Probably picked up some chemicals. Glad to hear you are doing OK with your trainer. Main thing is to put certain things aside like politics and religious beliefs and just get along. My trainer and I had some differences, but we became good friends. He also became the guy I called whenever I had a question. Still call him from time to time with something technical. Every now and then, he gets down here and I meet him somewhere for a meal and a chat. Be like a sponge and don't be afraid to ask dumb questions. Remember to build yourself up and drive your hours, but don't drive sleepy. Focus on the shifting and it will come to you.
Remember this; you are driving the trailer, not just the truck. You have to drive every foot of that thing behind you. The truck is nothing but a steering and power apparatus for the movement of the trailer, and you are the one manuvering the trailer from the reefer to the DOT bumper.

Best of luck to you. KLLM has been a good place to start in this business. Started here 15 years ago. Am new to this site though.
Re miles. The last two years have been at times ugly. I'll get 3 good weeks then have one die. If you don't mind chemical loads, you can hustle them. Sometimes customer service will sked the deliveries out over a longer period then needed. A lot of times you can get chemical loads off ahead of sked. The food/grocery warehouse are the worst in this category, usually appointments are cast in stone.
One thing is have lots and lots of patience. I've had loads where I'm only delivering 1 pallet (no breakdown) and the receiver takes 4 or 5 hours to get it done.

    fmcs Thanks this.

Went to KLLM orientation first monday in October. Train ride from Chicago to Jackson a real bear. Sounds like our class wasnt the only ones with Bp problems I am always 120 over 70 how can I be over there limit twice and just hit cut off third? Company sounded great on the phone and online . Day 2 informed that we have a dedicated run for you guys I think great not so much its pulling live haul. So I ask in my ignorance since this was going to ge my first job in trucking are we going to still have to take the reefer test we were told about yesterday? Donnies answer was yes you will. That was his last week at KLLM. And then were informed that these trucks are on road to make money we would be operating as a team. How is atrainer going to train me if I drive 11 and then he drives 11 and we both still have to sleep.

Well, you must be busy as hell out there on the road. Been watching for a post and see it's been a few days. Hopefully everything is still going good for you. Let us know how everything is when you get a chance.

Take care and be safe out there.

Well, if it hadnt been for a layover I still would not have time to check emails and such....lol

since the last post, we headed back south from detroit, D+H in Pineville, then back up north to Penn. Got to Penn, then got a pre plan for Cali. made Cali in 5 driving shifts (I did three). D+H this morning now a layover till Monday. :biggrin_25511: Then on to Chicago.

    now then, on to specifics.

Getting my bearings down in the truck... becoming alot smoother on the clutch and getting ALOT more confident in traffic (city and highway)

Made my very first Donner Pass (I-80) run early this morning... and let me tell you.... my butt is still puckered from some of that,....rofl. :biggrin_25523:

I was always wondering about the downhill grades, turns, rollover risks, cliffs, snow, rain, sleet, crazy auto drivers that dont care about your 80,000 GVW or how much it takes to stop...

I avged 45 the whole way down donner pass. Didnt want to go to fast my first time in that kind of environment... I have never even driven a CAR in anything like that before..

still trying to get accustomed to trying to sleep while the truck is in motion...

(and yes, I am worried about being more of a paycheck for the trainer than a trainee)

I asked about doing laundry a few days into it (company told me to bring 5 changes of clothes) and he looked at me as if I said a 4 letter word...lol.

avging a shower every 2-3 days.

and I actually judge my ability driving by how little the trainer talks while I drive. (he is one of those that jump all over the little things in the hopes of making you fix them)... a bit critical... and alot of "Do as I say not as I do" moments...lol

my upgrade test is on the 15th of November. I decided to go lease purchase. 3 more weeks.... :biggrin_25511:

I mentioned to the trainer I was glad I decided NOT to team with a buddy because the team atmosphere was NOT what I thought it would be.... and he looked at me as if I were insulting him...lol. :biggrin_2556:

Cannot wait to get my own truck..... :biggrin_25514:

well post again when I can....
