Dispatch can alter your elogs but I don't think you can, so they may try to pull that on you. With elogs becoming more popular and in some cases mandatory, you might find yourself able to run perfectly legal but you might spend a lot of time sitting.

you have to have letter saying you are on elogs a blank log book a dvir book.. and yes all responsibility falls back on you as a driver. lets say trooper Dan wants to view your hours and you can show him how ... ticket.. If he wants to see where your last pre and post trip were done and you can show him ticket. That is the problem with alot of these old timers.. I am still in my mid 30s but I have been doing this ALONG time.. I mean since I was 14ish long time. So I am use to computers and learning about them...but alot of the real old timers 25 plus years are not use to computers and they will be fighting elogs tooth and nail

    Everett Thanks this.

Do elogs relieve the driver of his responsibility/liability to know if he's legal or not?...

in a word NO.. they actually make you more responsible for it.. on paper the officer or company may buy the I made a small calculation error... on elogs they want to know why you were driving while the alarm was going off

It amazes me that you haven't been on the road at all yet know all of the answers.

I just loaded at Cargill. Left the house at 7 am and was back by 830. I'm not leaving til after lunch. But there is no way I'm starting my time at 7 this morning. That would be stupid. I'll start my time maybe an hour before I leave to show loading.

There's nothing "wrong" with doing it the way I am. Maybe it is "illegal". If so it is a crock. I have no time stamps on my BoL or CoA. I'll qualcomm my load an hour or so before I leave and be all set. Why start my time at 7 this morning and in the process screw myself the rest of the day?

I've only been OTR for a few months but it's pretty simple to realize sometimes you have to push the pencil to get things done. Nowhere do I say be unsafe. And how I'm logging today is not unsafe.

You shouldn't make statements/take soap box unless you actually know what you are talking about.

It's refreshing to read that not everyone will risk everything for a few bucks...Rerun said the same, he logs it as it happens...

That comment indicates I know everything, you're too funny!!!!!...What is funny is how you guys don't say anything to the others that say they run legal, i have a feeling it's because they have experience and will put you in your place...

and they are right you will waste a TON of time with elog and legal logging and it will cost you alot more a year than you think.. and the ones running legal wouldn't put them in their place. they are just stating some very unkind truths about this industry..

Nobody is going to "put me in my place". Those that say they run legal all the time, so be it. Maybe they do. Maybe they don't. I run legal all the time. My log book reflects that. DOT has looked at my log and said I'm good.

Until your actually out driving OTR dealing with all of the BS one deals with through out the day, your opinion is uninformed and is not based off of anything with substance, such as experience.
