I would think that when a newbie completes school and gets placed with their trainer over the course of several weeks that the logging habits of that particular trainer would likely be rubbed off on the newbie, seeing as how that is how they are being taught. Then the newbie can tweak it from there.
Until a new driver is actually in their own truck for the first time though, it seems to me that they can't really say what they would do.

I am still a noob, in school even.

But I have already made many career choices, I know that its going to sound all 'holy' and crap but its not ment to, its just simply MY choices, your choices are yours:

I will always log it like I ran it. If fate deals me a rough week, or a rough month, thats fate, thats part of the job.

I will always do my pretrip, bumper to bumper, top to bottom, im driving a 80,000 pound death machine. I wanna make sure it can stop.

I will always take a load, 20 miles, 2000 miles, its all the same to me, you never know when that short load, is to get you to where a real load is waiting.

I will /try/ to never refuse a load based on location or personal preferance, but I will not accept a load I do not think I can deliver on time legally.

And thats just from my schooling so far. I have talked to drivers, owner ops, etc, and have heard many ways (legal, illigal, and grey area.) And how to avoid certian pitfalls, getting caught, etc.

But your life is easier (Maybe not as 'wealthy' but...easier and safer) if you do as you are supposed to.

I run legal, heck I run almost paranoid. I aggravate my husband with my precise logging ways. With that said: yes we make choices and yes we can sit in our class and think we have made every choice there is to make but then we get in the truck and have to make choices daily. And yes it's a bit irritating to hear someone who hasn't completed school tell us how to do things. I personally think in about a year people who have the answers during school will either be out of the industry or they'll realize they know just enough to know they don't know much.

That's where I am.....I know enough to know I need to know a heck of a lot more.

As I said nana, those are the choices I have made, and like all things, they may change when I am in a truck, I just do not see how 'legal' and 'safe' are ever a wrong choice.

Well dragon, since my post wasn't about you specifically I'm not sure why you seek an argument with me. Think about it and if you find you still truly wish to rumble let me know. I haven't had an infraction on the forum in a while and am feeling a little jiggy today. *rolls my eyes*

This is the problem, Dragon didn't say anything that would cause a reasonable person to think he wanted to rumble or seek an argument......He said:

""" I just do not see how 'legal' and 'safe' are ever a wrong choice."""

For some reason when someone brings this up, those on the road want to fight over it...Makes no sense...

Inflection is one of the things that makes forum debates difficult at times...I'm as guilty of it as anyone...We're newbs and we want to learn...Some things just seem so wrong it's tough for us to grasp that they may be the reality of the road, but I know I'm trying...

    Question from student warning:

Cant you split your log? Go off duty/ log it as sleeper berth time (like you mentioned) to preserve your 11 hours of drive time? Even if you started your 14 that still gives you 8 hours of driving, and preserving many hours of your drive time by splitting your log like that. Once you then spend another 8 hours in sleeper/off you get your 14 back, and happy on your way?
