The deal with the split is it does not give you a fresh 11 hours to drive.
If you drive 6 hours and then take 2 hours sleeper you can drive another 5 hours then you have to take 8 hours sleeper, but this only buys you another 6 hours to drive before you have to hit the sleeper again. While it is legal to split it is not advisable for new drivers to mess with it.
And this is exactly why driver lie about sleeper by combining the 2 and 8 and showing 10 at the end of the 8. This in general was a really bad idea to start with.

Log book "cheating" and "creative addition" have been around since logbooks were invented. E-logs and such were invented because of this. Trouble is that the regs and the electronics were both invented by people who don't know the first thing about working, let alone trucking.
As one who was around before hours of service or log books it gripes me when some here pizz and moan about the "good old days" when you popped pills and ran till you dropped. That's a flat outright lie and BS to boot. There was nothing "good" or "cool" about it. We lost alot of good people. I watched a friend burn to death in his truck, another lost his mind and his family. Personally, I deal every day with health problems stemming from those times. Freedom? Yeah, right.
So what's the answer today? Do what you want. But when you get nailed, don't come whining around here about "how do I beat this?". -
Oh I'm not saying I do it all the time. Only a few instances that I have gotten creative. I always try to log it as I do it. Nothing worse then being in the scale house explaining your logbook.

I see how this could be a great advantage in certain situations. However, every time I have considered using it, I would have either gained nothing good from it or even put myself worse off than I was before.rookietrucker and Texas-Nana Thank this. -
What I am saying is you have formed some opinions on how you want to do things.. You have made no choices yet you very soon will though, but your planner will make most of them for you. All that freedom of the road and no one looking over your shoulder is bs you have about 15 people looking over your shoulder every minute.. Best of luck though -
To some people morals, and personal belifes are more important than a paycheck.
I have done my homework, I have heard from drivers, and such from my company of choice, and I have been told quite clearly that this company indeed, takes safety seriously, if you cant run you cant run.
I understand, and agree with what your saying, but I have made a choice on that too. Safety, and law trumps a paycheck in my personal opinon. I always have a choice. Everyone always has a choice. They pick a load, I have a choice to take it or not, I have a choice to fudge my books or not, I have a choice on if I want to keep a job or not, pbj or truckstop food, etc etc..
But thank you for your well wishes.
P.s PLease dont think any of that is attatude or smugness, its not ment to be. -
fr8monkey Thanks this.

>>>> unless you use elogs and they can even "fix" those.
Are the elogs even good in court since they were made in a way where they can be manipulated by the company?...Seems like they're not quite up to snuff to be used in a legal situation... -
