Only use Delo 100 40 weight year round. You do not have to change oil for the winter, these engines were designed to be run year round in all climates on straight 40 weight oil.

In the beginning of the 80s they imported some Bedford trucks with Detroits to Finland. Importer insisted on using SAE 40 oils even in winter. At -30 celsius they were almost impossible to crank and when they fired the oil didn't flow until maybe 30 minutes of running which was not very good. Engines didn't live very long and got a bad reputation. Some owners used their own brains and changed to multigrades in winter. -
should I be worried that he was running 15w 40 ?
is it a deal breaker? -

A silver 92 wasnt a reliable engine at all, it has 2500 moving parts in it, they didnt stay together very long but its succesor has been the most reliable engine ever made, the Series 60, i would stay away from the 92, you probably wouldnt be able to find a mechanic that would work on it

This had an 8V92TA. I put almost a million miles on it running 15W40 with no problems caused by my choice of oil.
One thing I'm not sure anyone else here mentioned is that the fuel mileage will bankrupt you.Attached Files:
