I am going to check out All-State Career trucking school in West Mifflin, PA. this weekend. They are PTDI certified and was wondering if anybody out there has attended or knows anything good/bad about the school? Thanks for the help.

Hey thanks Tralfaz. I visited the West Mifflin school and it seems like they run a nice tight ship. May I ask, was this a career career change for you and if so was it forced or voluntary??

It was a career change I worked Security for the same Co. for 9 years and wanted something different. 6 months was a long time but I got good grades in class and on the range, my road trips were good and I had 7 pre-hires by the time i got done and I'm leaving for orientation Nov 8th. try not to get caught up in peoples BS show up do what you got to do and get out with the CDL and a job thats what you are there for

Thanks for the advice. I no what you mean about the BS. I tend to be very focused and just want the facts. I am still considering getting the CDL on my own. I retired from the military almost 3yrs ago and I will use the VA to pay for the whole thing so its not the cost of the school, its just that I have a very good much better than average paying job that I dont intend to quit to go to school so I would go on weekends only. I also learned that the schools placement rate is very important to them and I dont plan on hitting the road for about another 18months, so they were up front and told me they would rather have me wait so that they could place me and they wouldnt take a hit on their placement rate. I can understand that. So I might just study and take the test to get my permit on my own then go to the school. Did you go through the week or just on weekends? Who did you end up signing with?

I went to afternoon classes 1:30 to 6:30 Mon - Thurs, the weekend classes seemed like to much at one time and the night classes 6:30 to 11-11:30 seemed to late for me at the time. I worked on and off for a friend over night doing some construction I had to cash out my old 401k to survive for 6 months. If your not going to be able to go to work for 18 months you should wait because companys won't take you if you have been out of the truck more then 30 days after you graduate they will want you to take a refresher class. Did you want to take the 6 month class or the 4 week prep class?

Np Thanks, Yeah the school told me that also. If I got my CDL now and didnt drive for 18 months they would want me to take a refresher. I didnt know about a 4 week class offered, but then again I never asked that during my visit, but I will now that you mention it because if I go there with my permit that might make better sense. Obviously we both live in PA and I see PGT trucks frequently. I wish you all the best!

Can I ask how many weeks you been in that 4 week class :biggrin_25525: Just kidding lol...

Alot of the guys I saw in the 4 week class were still around after 7-8-9 weeks cause they cant pass the state test. I would only take that 4 week class if you had a lillte time around big trucks maybe if you had a Class B and wanted to move up to Class A. Some guys got it with no prob some didn't. some of the guys that took the 6 month class still couldn't drive and were still standing around the range 5-6-7 weeks after the rest of the class graduated I cant tell you how many times on road trips I was scared to death by a guy in that 4 week class
