do they know you have a CDL....??

if so, hang in there, at least you are working towards your benefits and retirement. make sure you "kindly" remind them you have your license, and are willing to "ride" with a driver to help him out or to do short trips to prove yourself.

just let them know you are ready to help out in any way they need you.

 

Tell them NOW!!!!!!!! Working in the warehouse, knowing the products and the system gives you an advantage over outside applicants.

 

Ditto. If they don't know then you will neve get a chance. You should have put on the app that you had a cdl. I agree that since you are in the warehouse you already know the product which will take time to learn with a new driver.

 

I can think of a couple of reasons as to why he didn't put it on the application. First of course, would be that he didn't have it at the time. Second, might be because he figured they would think he was "overqualified" for a warehouse job and would just move on as soon as he could.

Whatever, it is done now. Tell them, NOW that you have a CDL and are interested. If you are a decent employee, I'm betting they will keep you in mind. If not for the job that is open right now, at least for something down the road.

Hang in there and keep doing a good job for them.

 

At least they may give you a spotter job and let you work up to a driver job...

 

Oh, OK. I thought you meant you were already working in the warehouse. By all means, as soon as you start there, let them know you have the class A.

I understand (I think) that you are wondering if you should even take the job, or hold out for a driving job. That is going to pretty much be up to you.

If you went through a school to get your your CDL, then you may have waited a bit long to get a big company to pick you up to train. If you just got the CDL on your own, without benefit of the school, I don't think you stand much chance of one of the majors hiring you, without going back through a school.

But if you take this warehouse job, and do a good job, they just might be willing to give you a chance, on down the line.

we have a guy at my work who got his cdl while working at my company. complete f-n moron. has absolutely zero idea how to drive a truck it drives me insane that my boss had this guy "trained" by a driver here. total moron, no clue how to shift, he grinds the gears on a 6 speed truck with syncros!!! WAAAA!!! i came into the office one day and they said this kid was going on my route, i said no way are you giving him my truck! i've got the only truck in the lot with a 9 speed eaton. i'd be lucky to ever drive it again after a day with that idiot.

point of this post, school pays off! i went to a private trucking school, 2 weeks, full time, 80 hours. 40 classroom 40 yard/road training. got my B there, this winter going to another private school to upgrade to the A (wish i got the A in the first place). it stands out to employee's when you can put down you went to trucking school, and not a company paid school. when i get my A and possibly start looking for trucking companies i know i've got something valuable since i've got training from reputable schools.

to the OP, just mention you saw they were looking for drivers and tell them you have your CDL, and that you'd be willing to do whatever it took to get behind the wheel. if they dont put you in there right away dont sweat it, use it to your advantage. my first job i got with my CDL was at a lumber yard. i took a job as a yard dog, got to know the product so well that when they finally assigned me a truck and put me in behind the wheel, i already knew what i was doing because i had all those months of building loads, driving forklifts, loading trucks etc.
