I could be wrong, but I tried visualizing that scenario and it doesnt work. the only time youd damage the passenger side is if you came up the right turn lane and cut the wheel hard with the tandems set at 40'. then possibly if you turned real tight your box MIGHT swing over enough to cause damage. But if your window isnt down or some isnt honking, youd never know you did it.

I believe the problem is below.

This is to the COMPANY who hired this guy...I am a recent Class A CDL graduate (graduated in Aug. 2010) from a college and I can't find a trucking job due to a DUI that I had in my personal vehicle over 5 years ago. I would NEVER do something like this! SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE!!!

Seems to me he got out of school and cant find a job so he comes here to bash truckers. Its funny how he had to put his situation and then say he would never do that like he thinks a company rep will see this offer a position or something of the sort.

well, I wouldn't hire anyone with a DUI, EVER, I don't care if its 20 years old. And he can go to his own insurance company and let them handle it.

The OP is confusing, but here's what I think happened --

Divided city street, two lanes in each direction. His daughter in her Celica and the Mystery Truck are both going the same direction. The Celica is in the #1 lane - the fast lane, while the Mystery Truck is in the #2 lane - the curb/slow lane.

Mystery Truck goes to make a right turn, doesn't pull ahead far enough, and the swing of the trailer as the Mystery Truck pivots around the intersection causes the damage to the passenger side of the Celica.

Mystery Truck driver doesn't know s/he's caused any damage, perhaps thinks any vibration felt is from "curbing" the trailer tandems.

That's the only scenario I can imagine...

NOPE! Reread the OPs post. He ripped off the bumper and did damage to the right headlight and the right fender. If he had been doing a right turn and the swing out happened to the front of the car then the bumper should still be hanging on by the left side hangers as the swingout would have only actually "pushed from the corner of the bumper out and then slid off as the truck progressed on to straight driving. It really would not have done a lot of pulling on the bumper. Also if the driver had NOT swung out far enough into the far lane or oncoming lane the swingout would have started maybe in the passenger door and THEN torn off the passenger fender and wheelwell then torn the tire or even pulled it off and then still just pulled the bumper out but not all the way off unless it got hung up on the corner of the ICC bumper if it was a "T" type (2 pieces going down and 1 piece welded across to the bottom of the other 2. If the ICC was a curved style then the bumper just could not have been torn off. At least that's how I'm seeing it!

Try reproducing the manuever in an MT parking lot and watch your swingout with the tandems all the way up and then set at 7 holes back.

I'd still need to see a diagram and even a picture of the front of the car from 10 feet away at the front passenger corner. I'm still not seeing this clearly except for a right turn and she is in the left lane as several have said.

He could not have been making a left turn across the front of the car.

Many years ago I committed a similar 'error'. Coming into Huntsville, TX from the east on US190, I missed the newly opened bypass and proceeded to drive through town with a dog legging 48' and sleeper cab. Driving through a very tight construction zone downtown, rr of trailer clipped the tail light of a pickup truck angle parked at the curb.

I didn't know it until a motorist stopped me at the next light; I pulled into the nearest shopping center, dropped my trailer and bobtailed back to the 'scene'. No one there, went around the block and was immediatey surrounded by Huntsville's finest! I explained what happened, my tractor was searched and we went back to the shopping center.

The elderly couple who owned the nicely kept '80s Chevy pickup were there. I apologized, exchanged insurance information and went on my way. No charges. Has never happened since.

Regarding the OP; thinking we need more solid info.:biggrin_25515:

What if both vehicles were making a left hand turn at an intersection with two left hand turn lanes? If the car was in the leftmost turn lane and the truck was in the other, with both making the same turn (both vehicles traveling in the same direction)? The car would have to be in the process of passing the truck during the turn, with the big truck driver not paying close attention to his offtrack.

:biggrin_2556: My guess he was turning left in a double lane turn left lanes setup , she was too his left, trl swung around follwing the curve , she went to , got into the wroung place at the wroung time, her front right corner went under the middel of trl, then back too tadem and he thought he just felt a bump and ran over the curb and keep going,so i be looking around there for a bent up trl marker light in the bottom of the middel, mayby with luck , his trl still be there at one those companys, trls are very hard too feel out as that dont have a that feel , unless , you almost turning it over, there is really no feel back there, i back over a trl jack ,sorta,up at this wis shipper, didnt hurt it , but yet i knew something was wroung, after awhile you learn too sence them things, the dock worker said dont worry about it , i told him not too place it in the middel of dock , but my dock was next over , my trl tadem hit it the side of it and tip over, oops :biggrin_2556: Everett

That scenario makes the most sense for the type of damage described. The only thing is the OP says that his daughter was sitting at the stop light, not moving. He also said that the truck didn't make it's turn wide enough.
