    Wyld,
From this point on it gets easier. Bear in mind, I didn't say that it gets easy, I said easier. The preparation for the actual CDL exam and the last few days leading up to the exam were the most stressful times I've experienced as a driver.

OTR training has its' moments but I firmly believe you have leaped over the greatest hurdle that wannabe drivers face.

    I am soooooooo happy for you.....you're a keeper!:biggrin_25525:

Thanky both!!! I know things will get better, yet I also know I have a long way to go. I will do my best an formost is safety, which I have learned my comfort level up to this point an will strive to keep it rising.
Unfortunately Hubby's DM is not a good fit for him. There have been so many times that he has been sent out on physically impossible runs that his confidence in his DM is next to nil. He hates to make waves, an I told him, so you would rather be the one to suffer??? He qualcomed last nite that this load to Tx is gonna be late, not because of him being lazy but it is physically impossible for him to get there. The weekend DM sent back that its not his fault, it should have been a team load so they are tcalling it to give to a team. I told him ask for a different DM cause this keeps happening an he pushes as hard as he can an gets to places late. He has never been late when the load was in reason. He runs 11hrs each day every day, so not a slacker. He actually told his DM, well if ya want me to get it there I will hafta violate my logs, an at that point on that load the DM finally realized that he couldnt make the delivery time. Yet on the very next load the same thing happened. I told him if he doesnt ask for a different DM, I will. Cause I am new an I dont want that kinda pressure day after day. Once I get some time under my belt, we can start hustling, which is what we signed up for. Sorry for venting but part of my pressure at school was because he was under so much stress, which he tried to hide from me, but ya know how wives are lol. I am not afraid to make waves when there is a valid reason, an I know how to be polite:biggrin_25516: when doing so lol.
    Luv you gys

I've been running with Swift now since the July. This is my understanding of how the system works.

The loads come from the load planners in the planning area he is in. His DM may or may not even be aware of the load until he accepts or rejects.

When he get's his preplan, he is responsible for evaluating whether he can do it or not. If he can't, he can reject it outright and notify his DM as to why.

Or he can call/QC his DM before accepting the preplan and let him know how far he can get the load. His DM then can notify the planners if they still want him to take the load.

Once he is under the load, he can do his MAC 22 right away. He doesn't have to wait until he already in trouble with the load.

Thanky for the replies!!! Very helpfull. I helped out on the range yesterday, which was an eye opener lol. Dang can't believe we all were so tense at one time!!! We were at the back dock on the range an it was supposed to be relaxed, have fun with it kinda thing, lol many of em said they really enjoyed it, but a few were so tense it was hard to get em to relax lol. They were just supposed to use that time as trying different ways to do a 40ft alley dock. They were able, for the most part, to mess up an figure out how to get out of the mess. I kept suggesting, get out an look, lol but until I wouldnt tell em if they were in the box it was like pulling teeth to get em to get out of the truck. It was a beautiful day too!!! lol They finally figured out I wasnt there to help, just to keep em safe, an they started getting out an looking. I reminded em that they better get out an look when they are backing in the real world or they wont last long, lol. Duh, oh yeah, lol, you wont be there then. Rofl, it was a great day all in all.
Hubby's load got tcalled for a team an he is headed back to the NW, guess we will see what happens from there. I have orientation this week so hopefully he will get the class outta the way an come home.
    Luv you gys

Here's what we use to do when we were OTR (and still occassionally have to even on dedicated): when we got the pre-plan we'd look it over, calculate if we could do it. If not then we called our DM and discussed it with her. She would then talk to the trip planners and see if they wanted us to run it late. We made sure it would be noted so we didn't get a service failure.

The pre-plan comes from the trip planner not the DM but you have to talk to the DM. Sometimes the trip planner who is putting a load on you isn't from your fleet so always talk to the DM before accepting the load if there's a problem with it.

I've had a few preplans that I've accepted before looking past the plan number. Basically, I only stopped long enough to look at the number, memorize it quickly, the fire off the Mac 9. I have NEVER been offered a preplan that wouldn't work for me based on the hours I've had available.
I know it's kinda dangerous just accepting preplans so willy-nilly but it's worked out ok so far. The planners and my DM know that I could give a rat's ### what time and where the load picks up or where and at what time it has to be delivered. And, as long as they keep planning me based on the hours I have available, I'll keep doing what I'm doing. Plus, they know I'm gonna bug the ever-loving crap out of them if they let me sit!!!
