My chain boards are made out of 2 x 12's, two of them nailed together. The bottom board is about 22" the top is about 14", this way they are wide enough for the whole inner tire to be and tall enough to not worry if I have enough clearance on the bottom.

"Best Way To Put On Chains?"

I'm thinking that the best method for putting on chains begins with a trip to the ATM. A crisp $100 dollar bill might make it soooooo much easier!:biggrin_25525:

I'll put oyur chains on and take them back off for you, $100 to install them $100 to remove them. You might want to make 2 trips to the ATM, oh and I don't take credit, checks, t-checks, or comchecks, cash only.

    Where have you been driving?

I run on "solid ice" every winter in the northwest, Sometimes for many miles...Sometimes without chains depending on conditions.
If you run the northwest very much in the winter months, You'd better know how to chain and how to run on "solid ice" or you'll starve to death by the spring thaw!

    Wrong again!

    Wrong again!

It's not too bad really...After you've been doing it a while it's pretty easy.

Most guys that don't want to chain are just intimidated by the chaining process or are scared to run in winter conditions...
I'm fine with them "parking it" because I don't want to have to deal with them when they put it in the ditch!

Get an experienced driver to show you how to put them on and then after a while you'll be puttin'em on woth no problems.

An experienced hand can chain up with full chains (Two sets of three railers and two sets of singles) in about 20 minutes.

Do you use the "chain boards" that another driver mentioned?

Can you or anyone else explain how those work?
A video of it would be awesome!

No Dave, I do'em just like the guy in the first video.

Set'em on the outside tire flop the chain over onto the inside tire and roll the truck forward and hook'em up! Roll for a few yards, Tighten'em up and go....

    Piece of cake!

I don't want to carry the "chain boards' because that's just one more unecessary peice of equipment on the truck that I would have to find a place to stow.

I've only chained up one time in 16 years and that was so I could get out of the receiver's lot to pick up my next load.
Otherwise I would rather park it.
Maybe, if I were smart, I should practice when the weather is good.
