A condo has bunk beds and a high ceiling. the other sleepers are midroofs 72'' high. unless you are a trainer or a team you will probably get a midroof.

you are way off on mileage estamites for 7/4 7/3. you should get 3,000 miles a week on your week out or about 8500 - 9000 miles a month. i do 7/7 and the only time i get less than 3000 miles is if there a holiday on that week and miss a day. last week i had over 3500. wi to tx. tx to fl. fl to wi. i train so that helps a little with miles and hrs. you will get more miles than regional because you are not picking up and delivering every day. with midwest regional you are also taking a 2ct pay cut, going to be spending a lot of time in chicago, but home every weekend (that means get in late fri nite leave out sunday nite.)

Ok...thanks for the info.....I would assume Im not going to have the condo..........Is the midroof that bad? WHats all in there? I know Im as dumb as a rock about this...so at least I can give you all a good laugh.

I've pulled all three trailers(van, flat, curtainside)in 9 years at roehl. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. Van is fine when it a drop and hook load. It sucks when you have a 3am appt time at a grocery warehouse and its takes 5 hours to unload. it also seems like alot of van freight goes to the northeast.
I like flat because you haul more interesting freight (heavy equipment, steel, lumber, and other building products.) I also like the places you go to better. I would rather go to a little sawmill than bring a load of toilet paper to a warehouse in NJ. I also like getting out of the truck and getting a little workout. Then again working with tarps is no fun when it's -20 and windy. I only had a couple of days like that last winter though. Another advantage of going flatbed is that if freight is slow you can pulla van or curtain. if you are just a van guy you are stuck. The miles are about the same for all three fleets. A flatbedder will make 2-3k more a year from higher mileage pay and tarp pay. Is it worth it? Depends on the person. Anybody can pull a tuna can, a flatbedder is a valued commodity. If you start out on flat you can switch to van or curtainside. If you start out van and decide to switch to flat you have to go back for more training.
The training schedule is pretty much the same, 20-28 days out with a trainer. most guys go home for a few days in the middle of that. 10-14 days out, home than 10 - 14 out again. The training in gary is a load securement class (2-3 days) that is done after the regular training. this covers pretty much all of the flatbed loads that we do. we can't do all the diiferent loads in the 20 days of training. -
a midroof is fine for 1 person. I'm 6' tall and i can stand up in one. the condo has an extra bed and a little extra storage. they both have closets, a place for a tv, cooler and storage under the bed. where is way up north?

Thanks again..Way up north is Iron Mountain Mich...........Im considering the Roehl 7 on 7 off ........would start the training the end of this month. Never drove a truck in my life. Was a joyrneyman operating Egineer Scrapers ,dozers..etc. Ive been a realto for the past 7 yrs and house sales are way down....so Im looking at hitting the road.41yrs old

Glad to hear I grossly underestimated the mileage for home time plus.

If I could pull down 28k my first year doing 7/4-7/3 I would be set.

Well, Hubby is now in Marshfield for trainer orientation that starts on the 10th. I guess it's a 4 day deal. Then he is ready for trainees. So if any newbies run into a John H. that's him. Road Dog when he is assigned his new truck I will shout you the truck number. It's been a year and over all we are still very pleased with Roehl.

Whispers,hope your hubby likes his new venture,training.I know I dont have the patience to be a trainer.I have had a few instances that have teed me off with Roehl,but in all fairness they are one of the better outfits to drive for.I am getting up there in age and a lot of problems I have with them are related to that.Just as soon as I can see my way clear to retire I am going to do it.But due to some circumstances it looks like I will be truckin for a while yet.
