I know I was with a company here in Arkansas. The first one I leased my truck onto. I signed the contract and it clearly stated that they would with hold $100 per week out of my settlements for license. This is high compared to others I've seen. Universal does $82 a week. Anyway. I started getting my settlements and I was being charged $227 a week. I asked why and the manager said that it was because I had received a temporary license on my truck until my regular license came in. I said I didn't request a temporary regardless I was charged for it anyway.
Plus on top of this they would charge at least one extra fuel stop on each settlement. Sometimes they would charge two extra ones. Then on my loads they would go from Tuesday to Tuesday instead of paying from Friday to Friday like most companies do.
I saw right away I was getting worked over. I called the manager more than once to point out what the company was doing. It was like talking to a brick wall. He understood but just kept saying "It's just the way we do business" I got my fill of it and went and parked the truck. Sure they offered to fix my truck and pay for it. They would take it out of my settlements plus interest. I just parked the truck took off the stickers and ended my contract. They still owe me at least $500 for extra deductions that I didn't agree to.
I know I was getting screwed over with this company. If Universal starts doing the same then I will bring it to their attention. If they refuse to comply then ...guess what??? I won't be leased with them long either. I don't expect to screw a company over and I won't tolerate being screwed over as well. I don't expect some company to foot the bills on my truck for me. I would never ask a company to do it unless I was in a desperate situation and had to do it. Even then I would be prepared to go home BEFORE i asked. I don't get myself into a situation where I'm 1600 miles away from home with no cash to fix my truck and I'm completely at the mercy at someone else to fix something for me. I would sell the truck before I got in that situation.Lonesome Thanks this. -

I do not venture in this area much, but all I can say is WOW. Sixdogs, I have read every post on this thread. So before you tell me that I did not, I did.. All I got out of this is how your unhappy, with universal, they did not help you when you were down on your luck. They have taken out more money than, you think they should have. You are divorced etc.... For someone who has been driven for 37yrs you talk and act like some new drivers just starting out the gate.. After all these yrs, of being a O/O you managed to save what $000 dollars, maybe that is why your wife finally left you.. I work with many drivers at my current job, (I have trained two) who are former O/O. They all say yes they made plenty of money doing it, one owned his own fleet of truck. But when times got real bad, they made the decision to leave, which there is nothing wrong with that.. I work with one who had is own truck for 25yrs, own authority, and made plenty of money. Which is how he paid for his house, cars, and other toys.. Why is he not doing it anymore, simple he had a heart attack, needed surgery. So he sold his truck and became a company driver instead..
I ask you this, why are you still a O/O, why are you still with them?. For a company that is screwing you three ways from Sunday, why are you still there.. And finally if you so broke, how in the heck are affording your internet bill, to cry on this site..dave_0755 Thanks this. -
