You're not saving $5000/month for maintenance. You won't have $5000/month left to save for truck maintenance. Plus, with a new truck, why would you think you need $5000/month for maintenance, when you're paying $4000/month for a new truck?

Not to be an arse, but are you sure you and your wife know what you're doing?

There's a unionized worker mentality that maybe you've never considered, it goes something like this:

We do all the "actual" work, lifting, delivering, driving, dealing with shippers, sometimes solve problems on the spot that your boss never know about etc... The company and the boss is just sucking blood and make a living off of me (the unionized worker)... "If" 1 day we don't work, they are all going going to hell... So we (the unionized worked) have the leverage to negotiate for more, we don't care about the company, if they are forced to shut down, fine, we can find another job afterall somebody is still needed somewhere to haul the loads right... They (company / boss) should be the 1 sucking our dicks, and we treat them like enemies.

It's not about what is right, what is wrong, it's just a psycoholigical battle! It's all about the eternal battle between fear and greed... If majority of the drivers feel fear, management can certainly exploid that and go greed. If management feels the fear, fear of losing drivers or fear of bad service from the drivers, drivers can go greed. Management are suiciding when they create the situation like the 1 in challanger - when the drivers goes "Fcuk you, we don't give a crap if we lose this job, we can find similar job out there, we have no fear! Management should have a lot of fear if we all quit or just work by the books to Fcuk them up!" At this stage, the fearlessness of the drivers turn into greed and the greed of the management turn into their fear...

I find this odd. He goes on and on how drivers aren't worth anymore than they're getting paid and goes on to insult pretty much everyone he comes across yet at the bottom of every post there is "Let's work on changing the health of drivers, one driver at a time,if need be."

He clearly doesn't understand the corelation between income and health along with job satisfaction. How is a driver that is chained to a wheel 70 hrs a week supposed to take care of their health, how are they supposed to have healthy relationships with their families. He thinks you can change the health of drivers without changing any perepheral issues. What is going to happen when driving hours change to 84 in a week rather than 70.

If the company treats the drivers right, there is no need for a union...there are outfits like that out there but not very many...

Most outfits pray on the drivers and are hoping, that there will be another 50 drivers out there waiting fill his/hers seat, when he/she finally gets fed-up with their B.S....
Now....there are good unions and bad unions...the bad ones won't do much more than talk up a storm and charge union fees...

The good ones howewer...they keep the predatory employer on his toes in constant state of fear (as they should), which benefits the workers as the employer can't get away with abusing drivers so easily without consequences...
This might be an unknown concept to lots of employers out there, but happier workers produce more, their attitudes improve, the turnaround slows down and everyone wins in the end...

why is it that some canadian companys are still allowed to hire from other countries, instead of being made to clean up their act so they retain employees and not do the fake driver shortage scam cry?

I've always said that there's no shortage of drivers, just a shortage of good paying driving jobs.
