Hello guys and gals, this is my first post here so I have a couple of questions. Firstly I am from Minnesota and am currently in school to obtain my CDL. We had a recruiter from Werner yesterday and that guy was a great salesman! This company sounds too good to be true so I'm sceptical that it is. I'm honestly leaning more towards Roehl, but in my area Werner offers a dedicated route for Wal-mart that I would like and have the oppertunity to be home every night. Anyone have expierience with dedicated routes? Anyone have bad things to say about Werner? Oh by the way there is another route I could go and become a driver trainer after I get some miles under my belt, Roehl offers this too. Any trainers here? So I can either go the Roehl route and become a trainer or I could go Werner and MAYBE get on this dedicated route or trainer..... I hate life changing decisions.... in all honesty I would just like to drive truck for a pipeline company or some sort of construction outfit but I gotta get my internship and miles. What do you vets say?

The best way to tell if a recruiter is lying is to see if his or her lips are moving.

Look at it this way, with the down economy, why does a company have to go to a school to try and recruit people, many of which have never even driven a manual transmission in a car before, when there are millions of experienced drivers out of work.

There are many reasons, which people need to think about before jumping at the company with the best liar.

Very true, but, being that I am still in school and require an internship to receive my certificate of completion as well as not having any OTR expierience my options are somewhat limited. Also as you mentioned, there are a lot of drivers out of work; Why would I not jump on an oppertunity to get my foot in the door and have a steady paycheck? I guess I'm just asking for input on the lesser of the evils here. Plus I've heard that a lot of people are perfectly happy working for some of the larger carriers.

I'm saying to research each company as much as possible on here, and everywhere. You will read good and bad with every company. It will be up to you as to which one seems to be the best fit after trying to sort through the junk. Try to determine which company lies the most, how they treat you as compared to what they promised, their pay, home time, are most people getting the position they were promised, ect.

I'm saying, don't jump at the company with the slickest recruiter without checking everyone out first. They may be best for you, or not. But you do the deciding by your research. The recruiter is paid to get you in the door any way they can.

This is the product of companies telling drivers that after 6 months experience they are ready to teach others....more of the let's get as many people as we can behind the wheel....to do that you need trainers whether they are ready to train others or not :biggrin_25513:

home every night umm not happening on that account. the only way you will be home everynight with werner if is if you get net-ops division (day cabs) or if you quit. You will get the weekends off on that account as with most of werners dedicated accounts. and maybe 1 or 2 nights a week at home if your route runs though your front yard. I am a trainer whoms company is leased onto werner. I have no complaints as I avg over 5k miles a week. I been on a dedicated account for about 3 weeks now that gets me 6.5k ish miles per week 2598 miles round trip. I do 2 and a half runs a week before me and the student take a 34 for the weekend as the company is not open on the weekends so cant pick up the next load till they do.

A lot of Weiner drivers I talked to said they were cleaning out their truck
    when they got home.
They don't pay any detention, breakdown, or layover pay.
And that can amount to a lot of cash out the window.
One guy I talked to said he made $138 for the entire week cause
he broke down twice and had to wait a day or two each time.
He got no breakdown, layover, or detention money at all.
He said he was cleaning out the truck when he got home.
    What does that tell you??

    elviaje26 Thanks this.
