Why is it that truckers have a bad image? The first thing that comes to mind when you think of a trucker is some guy who is old, dirty, fat, long beard, stinks, smokes, etc. Why is that? It's time to break the mold and be proud of who we are.

well you just answered your own question, and while we are at it, let's all of us thank Hollywood for it as well, and let's CONTINUE the thanks to the ever present trucker's THESE DAY'S that abide by the old stereo typing.

as long as there will be a "Hollywood" either here in America or other countries making movies, this will continue. as long as there are truckers now still living this way it will continue. the public will ALWAYS have this perception of us and we simply cannot wipe it away.

we will never truly be liked as a profession or individuals like perhaps back in the VERY OLD DAYS of trucking. it only took a few to destroy what was once a profession that people looked up to and respected.

As much as I dislike hollywood, I don't think you can really blame them for the image of truckers. I mean, have you seen Smokey and the Bandit? Snowman wasn't exactly a bum ya know! He was a hero!

Seriously though, I think a lot of it comes from the idea that mostly southern people or hill billys are truckers and many people think hill billys are white trash or dirty. I don't like that assumption, but lets face it, it's out there.

I also think many people know you don't have to have much of an education to get into trucking therefore they think we're all stupid.

I do agree though Rerun, it's an image that seems very hard to get rid of.:biggrin_25513:

I am the image of the Modern Trucker. (though a little over weight atm)
    Good looking.
    I dress well.
    Highly educated.
Been in several fields over the years.
Building materials sales, trucking, construction, warehouse management, childcare counselor, etc.
Always back to trucking in the long run though. It is a great industry.

All these negative attributes. Especially "old" and heaven forbid a "long beard". You had better hope farther Christmas does not see this. You sound young enough to care about this.
Seriously there is nothing negative about been old but I get your point.
