it's drive away insurance. doesn't allow you to hook to a load, last for a whole month, cost me a lil more then $200. So much for registering the vehicle to move it, rules are different for each state.. i had a truck moved from SC to Fl. Sc let me get by with just the bill of sale, Ga didn't care as long as i had "not for hire" on the side of my truck.. Fl wanted me to have a hunters permit (unladen weight permit). I hope you have unlimited minutes cause you're gonna need them to track down the information. Ga is the worst cause they'll keep transfering you to Comdata for some odd reason.

This thread is rather old and long but I figured if I posted a new thread it would get dumped in here...
I am applying for my MC next week and will need FULL insurance within this realm:

"Owner Operators Working Under Their Own Authority"

I will not be leased to anyone
.....I am currently with progressive but wondering if anyone has any suggestions...some of the quotes I got were wild ($5600+).
My MVR is totally clean. Have had my CDL since 1989 and my credit score is well over 700. There shouldn't be any reason I can't find decent insurance I hope...
So, looking for suggestions for companies I can work with in the midwest that will bind insurance in Wisconsin.

Thanks. I think they go thru Progressive but there isnt anything wrong with that. I just currently deal direct with Progressive since the cost was the same last time for me...

Hmm. Well, I guess I will see what happens. Been with Progressive for over 6months so far but don't have 3 yrs recent experience....
OOIDA used to have their own insurance but it had a low rating. I have no idea what changed or if they just go via Progressive now.....

    Currently:
    $20,000 Stated Truck value
    $750k CSL Liability
    $250/500 comp/coll
    $500k/$500k UM/UIM

I am at around $1600/yr for 'bob-tail' only insurance.
To go to $1k ded on collision only saved me $50/yr..so that wasnt worth it.

When you talk about wild quotes of $5600, is that for what you're doing now, or what you'll need after you file for your MC#? If it's for the whole ball of wax, that doesn't sound too bad, I certainly got quotes that were a lot higher than that-in fact, that's about what I pay, although I have more coverage than what the feds (and most brokers) require. I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about where to get the best deal on insurance, you will be getting scores of phone calls the minute you file for your MC# with people wanting to give you quotes on insurance. Word to the wise on that-get a new number to put on your application. It doesn't have to be a landline, you can get one of those virtual numbers that you have forwarded to whatever phone you want. That way you can turn it off and only return the calls you want to, because you will get hundreds of them, trying to sell you shop tools and factoring in addition to insurance, no exaggeration.

At any rate, after all the quotes came in, I stuck with Great West Casualty, which was who I was with when I was leased to a carrier, nobody beat their price by much, and I've been impressed with their service. Whenever I email them to ask them to send a certificate to a broker, they usually have it there before I can finish filling out the information packet. I also got backed into at a truckstop last month, and it turned out they also covered the company that hit me, and they basically just mailed me a check with no hassle. They're at gwccnet.com, and they show an office in New Berlin. You might also talk with the people at the National Association of Small Trucking Companies at nastc.com. But like I said, I wouldn't worry about it too much because you'll have insurance quotes coming out your ears, just make sure you check the company out and make sure they're reputable.
