In other words (translated by/for neocons) "If you don't believe & do what big brother says, then we'll put your small business into the ground"...

As for you "so-called" small government supporters, do you not think that this is big brother? What happened to being self reliant, liberties, and getting the government out of your business?

Where it bothers me the most is that I work a lot of bridge construction and painting jobs. With all the storage trailers, and trailer mounted equipment it is just about impossible to keep everything 100%. The jobs go on for a long time and sitting equipment can end up with a lot of problems. We usually have a drop yard near the bridge, but equipment can sit for 6 months before I have to take it up on the bridge deck or under the bridge or whatever.

I end up with a lot of little trips of 2 or 3 miles because I sit in the storage yard and wait for them to call me and tell me what they need. Sometimes I know what has to go and I can give it a good going over and fix everything, but sometimes the unexpected happens, and they need a piece of equipment in a hurry. If something is questionable I keep it down to like 25 MPH or even call one of the foremen to come escort me with his pick up. But still there are times when the equipment isn't 100%.

The HOS thing can be tough because I might only run 25 or 30 miles in a day. Sometimes I'll move stuff before 6AM to beat the traffic and then sit/nap in the office trailer until after lunch, then sit again for a couple hours and make another move, then sit some more. Next thing you know, I am out of hours and maybe only 20 miles from home.

I really feel like the rules haven't been written to take into consideration guys like me who haul very short distances. Most of the time the police are very fair with me, but I don't want to be put out of business by some cop with a grudge against trucks or something.

    People like me....

Lets see, I've no wrecks... Which mean's I'm a safe driver.
I sleep when I'm sleepy... Which means I'm a safe driver.
I work when I'm awake... Which means I'm a safe driver.

And if I'm so bad, just show me the string of dead bodies behind me... You seem to have the illusion that only more government rules can keep us all safe..

Thank you for supporting big government and big brother....I didn't know you were a liberal.

But you do admit to driving a truck with brake shoes that were cracked. You knew about the problem before you got a ticket. You chose to ignore the problem~that makes you a problem. We have regulations because of drivers like you. You and folks like you are the reasons for Big brother because you think your above the law. Your past history has kept you from leasing on where you wanted to go, don't ya think your way isn't working? I kinda feel sorry for you because you haven't figured it out~miles will never make you money.

Forget it HEAVY DUDE, you can't tell him anything. He's a 9 year veteran of the industry, so he's been everywhere, done it all, and wrote the book on trucking. Billy Big Rigger wants to be free and independent, but he doesn't want to be held accountable when he makes the wrong decision. It's ALWAYS someone else's fault, don't you know.

For a guy who's throwing the "liberal" name around so much, he's not too familiar with the conservative attitude revolving around PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. I subscribe to that notion - that I'm responsible for my success and failure. Not Landstar, not the government. Just me. But I guess I'm a liberal now, so I'll start blaming everybody but myself when things start to go south for me, regardless of what I did to cause it.

    There's a difference between a safe driver and one that's merely accident-free.
