From idea to actuality!

They know I plan to team with my bf and are fine with it. they love teams taht are couples according to the recruiter lady. We are even having safety check into whether my bf will qualify to become a finisher (trainer) so he can train me instead of me having to go with a stranger.

Thanks Kevin! I am so excited (trying not to get overly so since that wasn't a definite answer). I was joking with my boyfriend earlier about how weird it will be having him in the jump seat and me driving lol.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my thread! It will be much more interesting to read once I get further along in the process though!

I will have to share some stories from my time as a passenger sometime, it's definitely been a nice way to get a feel for the lifestyle. I know driving will be alot different but atleast I won't have to get used to the basics at the same time (truck stop showers, cramped space, days without showers, etc...) so that will help alot.

Thanks for the support and encouragement Chompi! I am very very excited (and anxious) to get started driving! I am gonna make sure to mention my time as a passenger multiple times in tomorrow's interview because honestly it is the reason I've decided to pursue this career. I love this lifestyle and Con-Way and have thouroughly enjoyed being a passenger on one of their trucks.

I feel I've have an advantage over a lot of newbies when it came to choosing a company because I've seen for myself how Con-Way treats drivers, how nice their terminals are, their equipment, etc...

We already love having each other around all the time and its been nice to be able to help him with small things like sliding tandems and sending qualcomm messages but it will be even nicer to be able to help with driving loads and paying the bills! I look forward to many more years of memories too

This is a story about one of the more interested loads we've pulled since I've been riding passenger on the truck.

In March of this year we were sent a load to pick up in Texas somewhere north of Midland/Odessa on a back road. When we arrived we found out we were going to be carrying a load of peanuts. Upon first hearing this, it sparked no interest whatsoever. The guy who was gonna be loading us had us get on the scale so he could get an empty weight. Then he pointed out to my boyfriend where he wanted him to go.

When we got over to where he wanted us he showed us this weird contraption (that I wish I would have gotten a picture of) that was like a giant peanut cannon type thing fed by a conveyor belt. He told my boyfriend to back up to the machine until the end of it was all the way in the front part of our trailer.

After a few minutes he began shooting loose peanuts into our trailer! Every few minutes he would have my boyfriend pull up some and that continued until they filled up almost the whole trailer. It was the stragest loading process I had seen so far.

The craziness didn't stop there though!

Throughout the load I was wondering how they would unload a trailer with loose peanuts in it like that, I figured I wouldn't get to find out though because I figured they would just have us drop our trailer and grab an empty. Thankfully this wasn't one of those times.

When we got to our destination (which was also somewhere in TX but I don't remember where) they had my boyfriend back the trailer onto this yellow lift thing with a giant whole under the bottom of the back and then unhook from it and pull away.

They proceeded to break the seal and unlatch the door which they had loosely tied together with a rope. Then they started tilting the trailer so that the doors began to spill peanuts out and into the big hole. Eventually the weight got to be to much and the rope broke loose letting a giant wave of peanuts out at once. After most of the peanuts were out they began bouncing the platform up and down to shake loose any peanuts still in the trailer.

Overall it was just a very unique and interesting load. I have a video of them dumping the trailer on my cell phone but have no idea how to upload it to these forums. Here are two pics I took though:
