Ours was fine last year in sub-zero or single digit temps for a few weeks on end.

Seen it, drove it and got to work on it in a Pete 386 test truck. It seems very promising.

On the issue of the lack of a real jake brake on the maxxforce 13, does it compare to the MBE4000 engine brake? I have driven the MBEs and they are another joke of a new engine. I can't believe fleets are still buying them. I know they are lightweight, but thats about it. The jakes on those things also won't really slow an empty truck. So how do those 2 engines compare for those who have driven the maxxforce 13?

On that style cab we have on our local trucks I take a bungee cord and hook it to the cb opening and hook it to the door. It stops the wind and water if it is raining. We will NEVER buy another IHC.

4600 - 2000 year model with the dt466 replaced motor at 125K. max of 60k out of the injectors abs light on at 15k never fixed right, a/c blows out on the floor fixed 2x/
7400 - 2004 year model with the dt530 samething with the injectors, and abs light and a/c controls.
Both trucks are at 300k and it feels like 600k miles.
9200i electrical bugs out the ###. IHC can't get the a/m automated manuel trans to work with out shifting in manuel mode. It is something in the abs crap. It is at 220K
My 1999 8100 has been the best so far. It has 350K very few problems. All the a/c controls use little cables to open an close the gates. The cat c-10 has never had work done to it other than hoses belts filters and oil.

We do have a 1990 single screw with the dt466 with a mech fuel pump. We use it as a yard mule. Everything works, even the a/c, the odometer quit at 500k. I like the little cable that has to be pulled to kill the engine, its fun to watch the new guys freak out when the motor does'nt trun off with the key.

I have seen the inside and out of the Paccar motor, and seen it in several different trucks. I haven't sold or driven one yet. There just isn't a huge market here for those, but I bet we will sell a couple within a year. Im quoting 4 or 5 in plow trucks. I have spoken to drivers who have them and test drivers and they say they are decent. Engine brakes work good and they are fairly quiet. Nothing out of this world though. Their glory is the fact that they accelerate good, brake good, good fuel mileage, light, and the B10 rating which is better than any other motor. They also can run on 5 cylinders if an injector shuts down, and repair times are excellent as far as overheads, injectors, water pumps, turbo's etc. Very easy to work on for the most part. We just got bulletins last week, and both Cummins and Paccar just lowered their previous 2010 warranty price's by hundreds of dollars if that tells you anything as to their reliability

If you are having a problem with the Mercidies then there is a problem. Either it has not been specked correctly, or it is not operating properly and you should take it in to have it repaired. It has two stages 370 and 580 hp braking force that is a lot, from a 450 hp motor with 1650 Ft Lbs of torque. There system is a smooth braking and can be used in slippery conditions where a standard Jake would cause you to loose traction. It also is quiet, so it can be used in restricted areas. Just a thought!

I don't understand the problems with the engine brakes on the Maxx13. My ProStar at work doesn't have that issue. I have been running those annoying 20mph hills off I-80 in PA lately and the engine brake holds very well. I think maybe people aren't letting the rpm's go high enough. It holds awesome from 1800 up.

Not real sure what you mean about having a problem. I never said i had a problem with them as in things not working right. I just meant that they are another cheap engine and their jakes also are sub par. The 3 that i drove were all new leased day cab sterlings with 370hp settings. They only had the compression brake and not the combined turbo brake. The compression brake alone should do more than what it does. I guess you could call it a smooth system because it barely slows you down. The jake on my old 9200 intl with a m11 cummins @350 hp would pull down way harder than the MBE.

Being a tech. maybe you could tell me how to bypass the idle on this prostar 13. it's a lease, so somewhere in the white collar buck passers, they've decided that if I need a 2 hour nap while waiting in 20 degree weather, I should just suffer I guess. Tried the usual from the older trucks I've driven but this '11 seems to be set up for all possible angles.
