So I have been researching various aspects about getting a CDL and finding a job etc.
Now while looking into companies that provide some type of CDL training (yes I know not the 'best' way to go but I am exploring all options available) I have run into a major stumbling block.
I was terminated from my last job of 13.5 years. This job was not a driving job but in a factory. Long story short I made the wrong person mad and they made sure I found my way out the door.
So now when I inquire at three driving companies with CDL training (Con-Way, Prime and CRS) they state that I would not be considered due to being terminated from last employer.
Am I going to find this to be the case industry wide?

Seems to be the case, but keep trying.. especially if you can prove your firing was unjustified. Don't know about Indiana, here in NC you can't collect unemployment if you have quit or were fired. If you are collecting unemployment here in NC the state deemed your firing unjustified.

    Just a thought!!

Some companies are like that, and I don't know why. You were fired from a non driving job and they won't hire from some reason. There are greener pastures here in the US. You would just have to find an employer that looks past the bull, and will actually view you as a potential valuable asset to the company if you are hired somewhere and decide to stay for the long run. Keep trying, but never give up.

You will find somebody willing to hire you. There are over 450,000 trucking companies in the U.S. So there's your odds! Try checking out careersingear or bigrigjobs. These are good websites to find some companies. Good luck to you.

sadly, this is another one of the many disturbing trends. it goes to why you were fired.....

since "in your case" all you did was p.o. someone, that ain't bad like stealing would be. now there is all types of stealing, money, time, products.

    but THIS IS NOT YOU......

sometimes being fired is seen as a problem because an employee does not follow the rules, or causes a major cost to repair.

there are just so many variables.

i would say, take your time to type up a very GOOD explanation of the circumstances surrounding this firing.

but i will "clue you in" on something.....

IT IS AGAINST THE LAW for an employer to say anything OTHER THAN your time there, your duties there, your pay there.....anything else is AGAINST THE LAW, and YOU CAN SUE THEM, AND THEY KNOW THIS.

so what you"can do" is go to school get your education, get your license, then apply for jobs, and KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT about being fired.

"reason for leaving" you can say, "the company had to make budget cuts due to the economy"

    or

"the economy forced my former employer to cut back on employee's"

NOW, IF you are collecting unemployment benefits, this means YOU DID NOTHING WRONG.....!!!!

go for it.....don't look back, screw'em...........

Good points! There is actually a website/company that you can hire to call past employers and act like they are doing a background check on you and they will let you know if the company talks crap about you. If they do then that is a major "no no" and you will then take them to court for it.

They are allowed to state whether a past employee is re-hireable; however, they are not allowed to say why they will or won't rehire. Much of what they can and cannot say depends on whether you worked in a right to hire or a right to work state too.

Believe it or not most companies will re-hire people they fired after a time has expired.

You don't have to tell them that u got fired !!! U can say anything u want the only thing any company is suppose to tell any other company is ur start date and ur finish date to verify employment. I've worked for conway and I didn't tell them I was fired from a previous job they just wanted to know my employment dates. So from now on never tell any company that u were fired , I didn't .

I know that at Stevens Transport, being fired from your last job will not necesarily keep you from being hired. It just depends on the reason.
