Does anybody really think thats gonna happen ?

I am not sure that it will happen.... however i would hope that the 14 hour rule gets tossed. I personally would not be apposed to a 10 / 10 with no 14 but keeping the 34 or even a 36 hour reset. I will not lobby for anything other than eliminating the 14 hour BS.
The 14 hour rule causes more drivers to drive tired than ever did under the 10/8 rules. At least under the 10/8 you could stop and take a nap and still make delivery on time.
To answer your question: the banter that i am hearing is actually 12 /12 (which i do not see happening either) and then there is the 10 /10 and a 15 hour work day.
the bottom line is --- who ever pays Anne Ferro the most money or provides the best vacation will get the rules they want. -

I heard a little bit of a report last night on satellite radio that it sounds like they are going to go to ten hours, a mandatory 48 hour restart, and a mandatory rest break during your shift of up to two hours. I was in and out of the truck dealing with a customer, so I don't know if it was rumor or speculation I was hearing.
I certainly hope this isn't true or I heard it wrong. That would be disastrous to what I am doing right now.
I really liked the change they made in '03 or '04, whenever it was. I thought that was ideal. The 14 hour rule is idiotic...BUT....they'll prbably make it tougher on us.
A mandatory rest break would likely make me more tired, as I like to sleep 6 or 7 hours, or none at all. A 48 hour mandatory restart is the stupidest thing I've heard of since the 14 hour rule. Who the hell wants to sit at a truck stop for 48 hours? I don't know anyone on any job who's not rested up in 34 hours. I guess a mandatory 48 is alright is you're going to be home for it. Even though I am home on the weekends, though, I often take extra loads and still get my 34 and am plenty rested for the coming week.
I don't know if any of this is true, but I have a pretty good feeling that since it is the government, they'll screw it up. Anything else they've ever touched has turned into a steaming pile. I'm betting this will be the same. -
Man, that's the dang truth! Ever since I've been on CPAP, I hate stopping in the middle of the day for anthing more than a quick snack. A mandatory 2-hour break would do me more harm than good, unless it is packaged as an option that would in turn extend your 14 hours. Then we might see some value in it. But you're right...if it's the government, it'll get screwed up somehow.

this must have been a "talk back" radio show. that "so-called up to 2 hour break" will make us be at work for the same amount of hours we are at now.
let's see.....drive 10 hours, work on duty not driving for 4 hours, and the 2 hour break, that makes for a 16 hour day....?????
then only 8 hours off duty.......
or even this, drive 10 hours, on duty not driving 2 hours, then a 2 hour break...?? gives us a 14 hour work day.....what do we gain....???
too bad you were in'out of your truck. -

I hope it was all "talk back" and rumor. I hope I DID hear it wrong.
Here is a website that is supposed to keep us up to date on all of the wonderful things our benevolent overlords are going to change to help our health and working conditions. It's supposed to be updated just as soon as the actual proposed changes are made public.

rocknroll81 Thanks this. -
transport topics, the trucker and others keep updated info also.
Paddletrucker Thanks this. -
I got my land line magazine yesterday and it said in there they are reopening the comments for hours of service but it should be public (in the federal register) by dec. 31

frankly i would believe my organization OOIDA for up to date and CORRECT information, as well as the ATA and the Federal Gov itself. this website you link us to has the wreaking smell of a consumerism/insurance company sound to it, and may be (in part) funded by the railroads.
and we all know the railroads HATE trucking.
i have seen enough websites for "trucker's information" that amounted to so much false information, it ain't funny no more. -
An FYI: I clicked on that link and could not close it by any means except shutting down and restarting my computer. Don't know if it was my computer or what, but it's the only time that has happened.
