Just to be clear, don't ever "flash" your lights at night. Always blink them on and off. Ok to "flash" during the day though.

I have mixed feelings about blinking other turckers over. One one hand it's a courtesy, it's a little something to break up the drive ... will I get thanked and if so how? A few guys will put on quite a light show.

If I don't get thanked, I give my lungs a little exercise with a robust fornicate you.

But, I've also been horrified as a four wheeler tailgating the passing truck will dart in front of me and alongside the other truck.

I can easily see the truck moving over on my signal. Then a nasty accident happening as the other trucker puts the four wheeler in the ditch. With me I'm hoping like hell I don't jack knife as I lock up my brakes to keep from joining the party.

The trainer is having him concentrate on the neccessities of trucking, which is good.

You don't need to be bothered with cliche's of the industry right now. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate someone flashing me over. It's a courtesy. But on the other hand I don't need anyone holding my hand. I always extend my distance to where it's safe to come back over and not put anyone in a tailgating position.

Too many don't understand the flash. One will flash as soon as you clear and here comes that driver over when you are 50 feet apart. Not a position I like being in.

You concentrate on what the trainer tells you. That's just the beginning. You have about two more years to learn all the ins and outs. We appreciate your concern. Drivers that are courteous and care make better drivers.

I think most of us just feel it's common courtesy. Of course it's not relied on but it's like flashing your clearance lights for thank you.
