Kids deserve love when they least deserve it" and i remember thinking to myself "what the hell does that mean.

That means that you never, ever stop loving them...period. My wife is a great example of that. Awhile back her 40 yr old son did something extremely stupid and got himself in real trouble. We helped him as best we could and he is now rebuilding his life. Through it all she never once stopped loving or caring about him every bit as much as her other 3 kids. I'm real proud of my lady.

I was out the door at 16, failed at the military, got my first job at the princely sum of $20 per week, went back to "school" and learned a trade, got a "better job" at $1.00 per hour. I was a piece of work back then. Alot of my "friends" wound up in prison or dead. From them I learned the uses of hatred and violence and fear. I was what today's Gangstas and hoods think they are... times 10. I was not someone safe to be around. Fortunately, someone far worse than me saw something in me that was worthwhile and straightened me out. Love can sometimes come to you in strange and often painful ways.

Too many of today's "me generation" have never known real love, they think it's about "things". Hell, our whole system (not just American either) is set up to teach them just that. You even see that here in people who think they're owed the easy way. But there are bright spots, kids who are "getting it" and are beginning to make their own way. They are the hope for the future.

To our young friend here; you are getting a huge dose of a thing called reality. Life is hard and often unfair. But it sounds like you're beginning to cope. Find a goal and work like hell for it. If it's trucking, find and read the posts of our member Southernpride. He did it (and continues to do so) the hard way and he's someone to listen to. Good luck to you.

yep pretty much! but you know what, despite me being a good example, my brother who is 21 still lives at home in my moms basement and plays video games. and because me and my mom used to fight all the time until she kicked me out, and i'd break stuff and get in trouble with the cops all the time, i cant tell him how it is. he figures since he was never like that its totally cool to be 21 and live in your moms basement.

hey this was the 90's for me!! i remember once my brother did something stupid, and even though my mom had some friends over and my brother and me had some friends over, she didnt care. she told my brother to go up to his room. he mumbled something so she said "hm ok". went and got a plastic coat hanger (the ones that are not a triangle but look kind of like a boomer rang). next thing we hear is CRACK and she comes back down and its broken lol. i think my mom threatened the belt a few times, i dont know if she used it i cant remember. how many of you remember the "i'm gonna count to 3" :biggrin_25523:

"Almost" 18 and trying to drive a truck? That's like trying to float a boat up #### creek without a paddle againest the current. Minimum age is 21 and because of company insurance some won't hire under 23 and even 25 in some cases. It would be hard to get a job without a basic drivers license. I learned that one the hard way. So without a drivers license you won't even be able to get a job driving a small farm truck in the fields. Pardon the pun but your pissin' in your own bowl of cheerios there. If I were you I would be making get a drivers license a high priority.
Pulling mobile homes is a different kind of business from trucking. Seem's like you have a lot of homework to do.

The Truth, that is! The only warning I got was seeing my Dad reach for his belt buckle, or my Mom going to the "paddle cabinet." We could run, but we couldn't hide. haha

mom used to say to me, "if you tell your father i hit you, i'll hit you again"....

man did i ever learn to KEEP QUIET....:biggrin_2559:

but truth be told, i think we actually learned to behave ourselves, unlike today's youth that i think CAN USE a good whack every now and then...

in today's world, it's "let's talk this over".....

if i ever said that to my mother.............

well...........you know the END result of THAT conversation.....!!

i think we turned out fine........

    this limp i got.....????

    it don't bother me much......:biggrin_2559:

The whole minimum age is 21 thing if false. Thats for OTR only. The minimum age requirment varies by company and can be anywhere from 18 to 25. Some companies with age and experience requirments will hire a driver that does not meet them. Even the company I'm with had a minimum age requirment of 21 and I've been driving for them since I was 19. If you are going to get a trucking job, you are going to have to carry yourself like a man not as an 18 year old kid. Nobody wants some kid driving a 80,000 pound truck when most can barely drive a car. The very first thing you need to do is get a basic drivers license. You are not eligible for a CDL in CA without a drivers license. You also need to keep looking for a job with more hours than what you got now even if the hourly wage is less. You'll barely make over $100 a week after taxes.
