Backing a trailer is a no-brainer breeze!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry but wrong...on Annacis island in the Vancouver area you do it often,and parking on the street lots of other places I've been.

 

HOLY krikeys ChromeDome...... I am now having second thoughts about this career....lol kinda kidding....I ONLY hope I get a good trainer, this is one area I have a bit of concern for, not fear but healthy respect.

hmm i have been to annicis more times than i care to think about--and yes you can park on the street---but not like its parallell parking when you just pull up to the curb

Is that the Kraft Cave warehouse in MO? I've been there once. That place is both interesting and crazy at the same time!

 

Sure backing is easy in a yard when you dont have a line waiting on you and you have the instructor lining you up.

We did that today straight line backing and parallel. Straight line is simple, the parallel got me i could get inside the cones but my tractor and trailer was crooked. Im taking this schooling thing with a grain of salt, On the road we are gonna learn twice as much.

When i first started welding my boss told me i was at the top of mount everest and i just kicked the first pebble off. That was after he taught me about polarity. Now i been welding for about 5 yrs and im only in the middle.

Im sure trucking is the same, im excited/nervous to get out in the real world.

 

There is a very simple formula for parallel parking.

You line up with the space, with the front edge of the space (that front cone if you are taking the test) between your back trailer wheel and mud guard. You should be about 2 feet out.

Turn the wheel all the way to the left, then start backing - slowly.
When you see the driver side landing gear 'just' fully in your right flat mirror, stop. (you will have to lift up in the seat to see it)

Turn the wheel all the way to the right. Then back until the tractor is at a 90 degree angle to the trailer.

You will have a perfect parallel park every time.

 

so how would you set that up? Just curious.. I always tend to oversteer... LOL.. trying to break that habit tho

 

Instructor was telling us to turn it all the way to the right until you see a mark on the trailer which is about a 1/4 of it. Then turn it hard left to straighten out. I think thats my problem not giving it enough right turn.
