Before I bought my trailer, I talked about renting too. The cost was more than a trailer payment would be. I didn't see the benefit so I just bought the darn thing outright.
So you want to "own " your own company

If you're just looking at buying a dry van, save your money and buy one outright. I don't even know what they cost to rent but you can get a decent dry van fairly cheap.Gears and Kimono_skunk Thank this. -

You are nealy always better off to buy rather than rent a trailer. I have rented trailers before, but it was for a short term. The costs are higher than buying, but it is a way to get into a trailer without all the cash outlay, or if you only need a trailer for a short time.
I have seen 53' dry vans selling for as low as $4,500-6,000 that are in good shape. -

I only ran about 45,000 miles last year , pulling someone else's trailer, with mostly their manufactered product. I can use their trailer to haul for others if they do not have a load. All runs are within 100 miles, most about 35 and to the same customers, home every night. Averaged $2.36 per hub mile last year, freight rate is figured at about 6 bucks a loaded mile. Of that $2.36, I figure it cost me a buck sixty a mile to operate. So I have about 75 cpm left.
Much better than my OTR days.Kimono_skunk Thanks this. -
Thats very good. I would love to find something like that around Chicago so I could live here again. I miss it even though its 3 degrees outside right now.
