TD, I'm going to chim in here...
But I've been reading your thread and I know I am a couple of weeks behind. However, remember three things.
1st. Never confuse "stupid" with lack of experience.
2nd. Your trainer does not know "everything"! He just has more experience than you do. And if he does think he knows everything he is a danger to everyone on the road.
3rd. (As my Daddy used to tell me) The only "Stupid" question is the one that is not asked.

    Drive Safe!

He sounds like the exception to the mentors I've been in contact with. Quite honestly, I don't even want him on my team. I hope to see you and this jerk out here sometime.

See how tough he is then.

Hey TD, want to have some fun?
Now if it was me, and this guy was my trainer and after all is said and done; When you are assigned your own truck, and after this guy passes you!
The last thing you tell him is... your gay! You think he as a cute ##### and you will lay wake with a stiffy thinking about it!
Then just walk away with a smile!

    But that is me... lol

"dragon: I have NO driving experience; heck don't even have my cdl, so I will state this with your knowing such:

    1) Your "trainer" is not doing you or your future career any service whatsoever! From reading your posts, this guy is a menace to you both career and safety wise. He has tried (and sounds successful) to intimidate you. Why? He is not a God or anything. He is just a man (and I use that term loosely) who seems not to give a #### about you or your career. Why do you care if he gets pissed off if you report him! If he is doing what you state he is, then get rid of him!! You don't have to try to be a tough guy who spouts off hot air, but you do have to stick up for yourself! So what if you report him to SWIFT? You need to speak to Safety, the fleet manager (or whomever it is who oversees the trainer-trainee program at SWIFT) about what is going on, and get out of that truck! SWIFT cannot do anything about your situation if you do not tell them! I realize you are anxious, and maybe thinking "if I report him, I may get into trouble." I doubt Swift will "take his side." Are you going to continue to let him push you around? If you have to wait a week, 2 weeks for another trainer, wouldn't you rather do that than to continue to go through what you are? I would think that his bigoted and racist remarks are enough to get a reprimand, at least, but Injun, 'Nana or other SWIFT drivers will know that. With all his "bag of wind" comments you state he has made, I bet this bully would fold like a Hallmark Christmas card when he is confronted by YOU and his superiors! Most bully's do. But YOU have to confront him first and tell him in no uncertain terms that you will not tolerate his BS any longer! He has put the fear into you; now it is up to you set this bully straight if he does not stop his BS.
If someone experienced in the inner workings as a driver disagrees with me on my statement, let me know. I imagine that I also may/will have to learn to deal with some wacked trainer sometime here in the future and I may be on this board at that time too.

Remember 'dragon, he is only a person. Man up and take the bull by the horns. Please!

    Injun and Wedge Thank this.

First of all...I haven't read all of this thread...are you female?

Secondly...there was a guy at my school yesterday taking advantage of the job placement they have. I heard them talking about why he was back after such a short time with his first company.

He said, "I was driving through Dallas and we were pulled over by a DOT guy. We got inspected and he found 12 things that would put us out of service. He asked for the logs and saw that I was driving, and that because I signed off on [THE TRAINERS PTI] that I would get the violations." He then started talking to somebody else about how he knows for a fact that there hasn't been a pre-trip done since they were at their terminal 1400 miles ago.

So, he got fired, and his trainer got NOTHING because he wasn't driving. Also, he has 4 points for violations through CSA 2010 and has all this on his DAC. Only, the part about his "trainer" doing the pre-trip isn't on there....of course.

Are you sure you want to continue with this guy? :biggrin_2556:

When I was in training they pushed me to skip the pti's too. I had to make up other excuses to go do something or make a reason up to do them. He sounds horrible though.

I would not have put up with that during my training even though mine was just with a city bus locally. I would have told someone point blank, most likely my supervisor. Almost all of my trainers were retired truck drivers that were as sweet as could be though. Now the dispatchers were horrible but I didn't have to mess with them that much.

From what you describe though he is horrible and it sounds like he is actually doing you a disservice and may be pulling your focus a bit from learning how to drive and the tricks of the trade to learning how to deal with him. The added stress can make it harder to remember everything too IMO.

    Klingon Thanks this.

N,o but then again I don't see what my gender has to do with anything. And I have been giving the truck a once over when we hookup to a trailer and get loaded and such, and now when something is unacceptable,i am not going to sign the"this truck is acceptable box" on my daily log sheet, if we get nailed,i will put that out, and tell the for officer that my trainer and owner of the truck refused to get it looked at, and if I see a chance to get away,i will. There is hope, he spouted to map today.
