You guys don't have to give a crap about me, but please think (particularly you, DC_Cab) about what others may be going through before you tell them that all the abuse they experienced is just "getting the facts without sugar coating."
I don't want to go back at all but my husband is begging me to give him a chance to train me.
Also, Rug_Trucker, the way it was supposed to work with my first mentor was she was supposed to be going home each night and I'd get the single bunk. The problem was she never went home, just continued to take short loads in addition to her dedicated that ended up keeping us out, using my logbook to cover hours of service violations, and on the first night not stopping long enough for us to get more than 5 hours in which to sleep. I think I may have gotten 3 hours at most that night. I am not exaggerating when I say I came away from that with a 100+ degree fever.
And yes, I have made reports to Safety about this in the Pheonix terminal and sent statements about this mentor to the driver services lady there who was actually helping instead of the drivers' services lady in Decatur who kept telling me that everything was my fault.
Now if you all will excuse me, since I'm accused of being weak/wussy/worthless/liar or whatever, I think I'll stop responding now before I do something I will probably regret later.
Edited to add: I shouldn't have come here logged out and seen DC_Cab's latest post. So now you're laughing at me too, belittling what I say even more? I don't know why you feel the need to enjoy yourself at the expense of another person's pain. My posting on this thread was supposed to just express a bit of sympathy and warning to the OP about this particular terminal and it has become a thread where you are expressing enjoyment at the pain and sorrow of others. If this is what the Trucker's Forum is I don't know why anyone posts here.Last edited: Dec 11, 2010

Hmmm...well, I'm taking notes on all of this. Go out for training (I keep reading about it being six weeks) in a truck with one bunk? Nah, I wouldn't be loading my gear into that truck.
I am sorry to hear about your problems. From what I've read here, it's a tough business, which is one of the reasons there's such a high turnover. -
OK my apology Pixel. I see now how you could run in a single bunk truck. Running in that small area with the mentor going home isn't good training. Did you talk to the safety guy in Decatur about this? He seems to be a no BS kind of guy.
A friend worked with a dedicated L/O called Pineapple Joe out of Gary. He was totally unprepared for OTR.
Some mentors really know there stuff. Others are in it for the money. Some teach you little to nothing, or the teach you bad things.
My mentor's next student after me filed a complaint about his original mentor. The mentor was a young attractive blonde. She wanted sex with the guy and he refused because he was married and didn't want to cheat on his wife. AFAIK she is still out there as a mentor. Nothing got done about it.
Hopefully your husband will be home in a few days. Then he can mentor you properly. -
I'm certainly NOT trying to belittle you at all. If you're offended, I don't know what to say because I'm just letting you know that what was said in that classroom was nothing but the truth. Come on back and give it a chance and don't let them get to you like that. Just follow directions and you'll be fine. I love my job and have a great time EVERY DAY I work. And if you have the opportunity to do so and share it with your husband, I think that be even more fun. To have shared experiences.
As far as your mentoring situation, I am sorry you had to deal with that. I always thought that those single bunk trucks were for just solo drivers, not mentors. That part, I don't think, was right. So I'm in understanding of your plight there.
Good luck and please, take it easy.Last edited: Dec 11, 2010

DC CAB,
I see you've responded to the OP saying you'd be in Decatur on the 14th. Your profile says you've been driving for 4 years and apparently you know a lot about the inner workings of the orientation process. Are you a mentor or driver?
I ask this because I'll be there on the 14th for orientation, you strike me as a someone who tells it like it is.
Thanks for your posts about orientation. Maybe I'll see you there. -
