They cannot pull up ss records unless they get permission from me. SS records are very confidential. Even government workers do not use this system to verify employment. They cal with the information they have been given. Sometimes employers will ask for the last two or three years w-2 information.

I agree, so I guess I could just say I held average jobs, with low pay. So hopping to something better was something I often did. Which is really the reason. However I left pep boys when i was assistant manager because I was payed 12 bucks an hour to basically manage the store. Not worth it...

You ask "Why is the DOT different?" This is why, and hopefully this clears up some of the confusion going on here.

PRIME's application for example, wants you to list any company you've worked for in the last 10 years "THAT WE'RE REGULATED IN ANYWAY BY THE DOT"......but then it only asked for the last 3 years of any other unemployment.

So for example with me, the 10 year rule isn't required because none of my jobs we're regulated by the DOT. If yours weren't then its not either, but I will add that PRIME is the only company that only wanted any "other" previous employment dating back to 2007. Some companies still want the last 5-7 you've worked for.

Supertrucker already! You asked us what our prediction of your outcome is going to be, well I predict you don't make it out of the gate! These mega-carriers have their own private investigators and their only job is to find out every detail of an applicants history. I double dare you to leave something out in your employment history! They may not find it now, or tomorrow or even by the time you leave orientation. Hell you might make it a month, but they will find out! I guarantee it! You are talking to a whole crew of very experienced drivers and trainers. What makes you think we are pulling your leg? You need 10 years of past employment. That means 10 years of every job that you ever held. If there are any gaps in employment you will need a notarized letter stating why and for how long and what you were doing during this time. On day one of orientation you are going to sign a paper releasing whatever company you are interested in to do a background check on you, a credit report and also the company is going to call every single employer that you have worked for. Like I said, if for any reason you are doubting all this information that these experienced gentleman are giving you I double dog dare you to lie on the application. Not only WILL you get caught but they will put it on your DAC and also the federal government has reason to take action against you because your job application is also a federal document. Just like a 1099 or a W-2 form.

If I were in your shoes I think my choice would be Swift or a good company like Werner. Keep us posted and let us know how it goes.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum, a place where you aren't going to win an argument about trucking!

I went through the most extensive background check when i was a banker for a casino. I had to be fingerprinted, and they had their investigators do their thing. And I had no problems. I did not list all my employment like they wanted.. simply because the only leads they had to start searching was from the information I provided...

None of my previous jobs were through DOT. But places like Gordon want all 10 years full time or part time. Unemployment, school... the works

So go for it! You asked us a question and then argued the point. We aren't the ones who are going to lose in the situation. You are. Is it worth to you rolling the dice? If so do it.

    Rerun8963 Thanks this.

So, honestly when it comes down to it I am going to list all employment, but I do not have all of that information. Is there a way to get it from a government office?

Sanjoaquin209 is there something your trying to hide by not listing your employment history? Just be truthful and it shall set you free but try and lie well it will bite you in the #####. If your are trying to hide something now what will you be hideing later down the road. HONESTY is the best policy.

I see your point chompi, and I thank you for it. So you think that I should just list everything. And if I get rejected, then I should just hope to be hired further down the road, maybe 6 months to a year?
