I think that all truckers should ban together and boycott Walmart. Knowing that this will not happen, but if it did it would definetly teach them a lesson. Why make a appointment time if they cannot stick to it. If we the truckers are a hour or more late they make us reschedule for the next day. Oh well all they are doing is showing the truckers that they either don't give a hoot about anyone else's time or they are very disorganized stooges. I delivered to a Walmart DC in Gordonsville Va last week and after sitting and waiting on a door for 2 hours my dispatcher called me just to see if they had got me in yet. I told him I got tired of waiting and dumped their stuff out in thier parking lot then left.lol I was there for about 6 hours :biggrin_25511:total. I too have noticed that they call us up in groups for the bills.

The competitive edge in trucking is service... that's all we have to sell to the customer. So being late isn't exactly providing superior service - and WalMarts scheduling software is a batch-process run once a day. If you're late, you either get worked-in if they're not busy, or you get put back in the hopper for the next day. That has nothing to do with WalMart being disrespectful to a driver...

no it would NOT teach walmart a lesson.....some years ago, Levi's jeans decided to pull out of truck stop stores, saying something like they didn't want to associate with truckers and would rather be better known as the jeans for the "in crowd" or something like that...(anyone remember.. ?? i do..)

many responded in the trucking magazines, web sites, etc, that we should stop buying Levi's jeans.....(they don't want us, we don't want them)

well that thought went over well.....

Levi's sold just as many IF NOT MORE jeans.....( i know first hand, as i go to my local Sears store, and buy SEVERAL pairs of Levi's each time, as they are ALWAYS CHEAPER at the retail stores than in truck stops). i personally ain't about to boycott a product I USE.....

boycotting anything from "our level" of numbers is useless, as we are OUT NUMBERED by the "general populace" of the country...and when i am a consumer, i fall into the "general populace" like EVERYONE of YOU DO......

we (as truck driver's) ARE A MINORITY who's voice will NOT be heard.......

so i am glad you said, 'this would not happen" because we all know, it won't......

Yup.....2.5 gallons of drinking water at Wallyworld costs anywhere from $.99-$1.50 depending on the brand.....A pint of "chilled" H2O costs $2 at a truck stop.......Go figure....:biggrin_25515:

Truck stops don't "make money" selling fuel......so like the movie theaters...they make up for it elsewhere....

I wonder...if Wallyworld sold Diesel it'd be cheaper than the trucks stops.....

They are good for that they are. I ran water to them in Florida when I did a little time with "Link America". We had to be at the gate exactly an hour before delivery time, or you'de sit all day.....:biggrin_25521:

I don't know, but it's not a distributor's business to put their expenses on their labor as if time was worthless.

A lot of supermarket DCs make appointments with stiff penalties for being late, then the trucker arrives to find 100 other trucks with the same appointment time. It may take 6 hours for lumpers to sort thru the produce only to chargeback to the carrier for a couple boxes they had damaged and didn't like.

I also notice that cheap DC like Walmart have a long list of stupid safety procedures to make up for failure to invest in things like trailer grab bars on the docks.

Stockton, as the driver of the truck. Its your responsibility to make that appointment time. You need to be there when they are going to be ready for you.
If there are 50 other driver who can make it, why can't you do it without giving a lame excuse?

Seriously, you essentially work for them, not the other way 'round. That means doing things the way that they want them done. If you can't handle that, go back to Subway.

Those stupid safety procedures would not be needed if drivers would learn to listen to instructions. You can pull a trailer from those grab bars. Most places I P/U now put a glad hand lock on your trailer. Why? Because a few CANNOT follow simple instructions!
