Walmart Steals from the Poor...

I notice that Walmart is good at explaining away their abuse of trucker time. Sort of like a phone company or big bank, they invent some "data processing", "shift change", or "another department" excuses for what in reality is a rip-off of time and money. Inflexiblity by a large company that benefits their bottom-line is just a shell game of distraction from the truth that's no better than a street corner 3-card Charlie con-artist. Walmart is often lazy about unloading, because they can really hustle to unload when they want to. They take away driver keys as a power and control game--you can be sure.

 

Ok you pitifully poor drivers defending giant Walmart, let's be mindful of the facts:

Most Walmart OTR trucks are driven by fleet drivers with maybe 90 days experience, so no surprise that once or twice in the DC's history some dumb bell would pull away on a red light. But, the simple and cheap trailer lock fixes that issue, so any Walmart exec reading this ought to consider what other smaller companies do short of the time wasting and insulting tractor disconnect and key removal routine Walmart does.

2nd, good old boys, recall that I had arrived early to unload just 7 pallets. I'm never late to deliver. Non-Walmart DCs would have me unloaded in 10 minutes, respectful as they should be of an OO's time and equipment. Most folks are happy to see the mailman or UPS driver bringing X-mas gifts. Grinch that Walmart is would probably want Santa to disconnect Rudolph and then wait 2 hrs seated on a plastic folding chair in a vacant lounge decorated with safety warning signs.

 

That's good advice for most Walmart loads, but this one didn't require the lumper fee. I'd be giving lumper labor for free. Sometimes I do help unload elsewhere, but many warehouses are too complicated or dangerous to recommend driver unload too. Lumpers are paid for a reason.
