it seriously bugs me when i see trucks passing when theirs snow on the ground. you cant stop a truck in snow for crap. yesterday i got on the highway to head back home, and was going slow about 15/20, i tapped the brakes pretty hard like i always do in less the ideal conditions to see how slick the roads are. it was shear ice. a few moments later a big 53' tractor trailer comes by going about 50. i dunno, it just really gets me mad. its not safe.

I agree. The guy that done the rear ending should be charged for following to closely or some sort of charge like Driving without due care and attention.

Man, I'm a week from making a final decision whether or not to get into this industry and I have to read this thread...

Seriously, I've been practicing defensive driving the past 6 months or so. Leaving plenty of following distance while moving, enough room to see the road between me and the car in front of me at a stop, getting out and looking before I back in or pull in anywhere there may be something to hit, using spotters, etc, etc...

I've been driving a 24' flatbed for 3 years now and, knock on wood, no incidents or accidents.

I've always been a relatively safe driver, but it seems to have gone to extremes these days. It's kind of frightening. I plan on playing it very safe, but the truth is you never know what can happen. Granted, you can greatly decrease your odds of having an accident.

i know in Fl. each driver is USUALLY responsible for the vehicle THEY hit. reasoning i think is.. say at a redlight you are supposed to be stopped a carlength or so behind the vehicle in front of you to avoid this. OF COURSE... if there is excessive speed involved in the rearmost vehicle, that may be thrown out the window. not sure how the details all work out though.

That's good Matt. That's the way you should be.

If you drive for a living, you have to learn to read traffic a far and drive where you always have an out. Every person in a wreck thought it wouldn't happen to them, but it did. Even the best driver can take his eyes off the road two seconds and the inevitable nightmare can happen. All people drive with habits. Learn the good habits and they become second nature.
You can watch an over aggressive driver weaving in and out, tailgating etc. Ten miles down the road they are still just seconds ahead of you. Is all that crap really worth it? Driving is alot like poker. You have to put the odds in your favor to be good and safe at it.
