I did the flying thing...Was a captain on heavy jets hauling freight(MD 11, 747) and the pay has been cut to half of what I made in the 80's and I would have had to move to India...So I am driving a truck...I am home more...1st Christmas home in 17 years....

I heard pilot of airplane is saturated because everyone wants to be an airplane pilot. How does a ship pilot compare to this?

How does someone who is thinking about becoming a merchant marine decide that a Truck Drivers forum would be a good place to go to get info?? Somehow I don't think this guy could pass the test to get into merchant marines.

Wait Lupe! I have the answer for you....... JOIN THE NAVY!!! Free training... 3 meals a day plus FREE housing!! I was in the Navy for 8 years and if you become a Boatsain Mate you WILL get to steer the ship while you are on watch.

Well, first off the biggest difference is that planes FLY in the air and ships SAIL at sea.

Try Google to find out information rather than trolling a trucking forum.

The US military will take anyone with a pulse so you have it made there.

Thanks. Wow. Scary, but I don't think we can only blame the schools. Some people--for whatever reasons--just don't do a good job of learning.

Wow, the US military is getting some standards for the typical grunt. Good thing.
