OPTIMUS PRIME, I'm leased to Landstar and use their board (Agents also call with freight thats not posted) I'm a single truck operation so I drive, book freight, plan, ect. There are many ways to get where you want to be~ so ask questions, plan, learn all you can. Many folks on this forum have years of exp. on what to do/not do. I learned most of what I know the hard way because there was few willing to answer questions~or had no clue themselves on how to make money.

Heres a good one....
Found a load out of PA going to Tx, its 1500miles and the load is only paying $2k plus a $400 surcharge. Personally, I wouldn't touch the load, but someone will!
Another one, wide plate from PA to Wi, 900 miles for 1853 plus a 385 surcharge. Now if the plate is only 102" wide it doesn't sound like a bad rate, but if its over that and you need a permit, that rate sucks! BUt again someone will haul it. You also have to consider the tolls you'd have to pay if its a permit load.
Both loads are coming out of E PA.
This is why when I hear people talk about getting good rates out a E PA I usually just laugh. I have yet to see any good steel rates out of the eastern states, mean NY, MD, VA, or East PA.Working Class Patriot and ampm wayne Thank this. -

Thats flat bed freight.
The pay differs from area to area and depending on how bad they want it...Working Class Patriot Thanks this. -
This week I ran two loads to Ft Wayne outta central WI (bulk potatoes).... I get paid by the cwt. so each outbound load is different (different shippers/load weights) but each paid right at $1200.00... about 380 miles loaded each trip.
I bounced back home each time for the cost of fuel ($215.00) so I could grab another load. Normally I would have a $450-500.00 reload but not this week.
So I'll have (about) $3200.00 gross on around 1500 miles. I can't see how anyone could run on less $$$.... this is dirt cheap IMHO. The object is to MAKE A PROFIT not just ride around. I ran these loads to stay busy since I have bills to pay.... but you won't get ahead running for peanuts.
I reload Sunday morning for Jeffersonville, IN....53STEP Thanks this. -
How did you figure $3200 gross? It looks like $1200 x 2 is $2400.
