Thank you all for all the support and encouragement.
Well I took you advice (which had also been given to me by a few others). I went to Wal-Mart and bought a wrist blood pressure monitor (I read that those are supposed to be more accurate that upper arm ones if you are over weight because there is less fat to measure through). I have to wait to check it because it says not to have ate (or done a bunch of other stuff) within the last 30 minutes (many of) which I have done. So I will take it in like 30 mins.
I was told to wait on the glasses/contacts as high blood pressure can effect your vision. I know I need glasses but I don't wanna get a prescription and it end up being wrong because my blood pressure was making my vision worse than it normally is.
The readings they got being wrong is honestly one thing I am really worried about. I get really nervous when I go to doctors and I know that can affect my blood pressure I'm just hoping I'm not taking this medicine when I really don't need it as I'm sure that would not be a good thing.
The doctor who saw me for the high blood pressure mentioned the sodium thing so I have been trying to work on that. But other than that and the medicine I really don't know what else I should be doing.
I really am trying to stay positive it's just hard because these problems have started a snowball effect and more and more stuff is coming up because of it.
I have to call the doctors office where I got my physical done tomorrow and then Con-Way, I will let y'all know what happens.

Best of luck Katey,-But a "snowball effect"-at your age,cmon..Many of us OLD GOMERS are takin blood pressure pills, and we should be worried about backlash, but arent, and can still pass a DOT physical..Not recommending to let yourself go to Hell,-but YOU have plenty of time..WORRY NOT
Katey Thanks this. -
Well I meant a snowball effect in other areas of my life. The blood pressure problem has caused expenses we weren't prepared for so has the vision problem. It also means putting off school which means our money problems will last even longer. The meds and doctors visit means a follow up which will most likely require me to stay home when my bf goes back out which adds stress for us (we tried long distance before and both hated it) and adds to the money issue. The list goes on but I'm sure you get the idea.
Anyway, we are dealing with it all the best we can and I'm just gonna keep praying that everything works out.
On another note, I checked my blood pressure and it was 107/58. That seems awful low, especially for someone diagnosed with hypertension.
I can't be sure it's acurate but it gave a normal reading (117/75) for my boyfriend who has never had BP problems and gave a high reading (138/98 ) for his brother who has high BP so it seems like it should be.
This is confusing me even more. I guess I'll call and explain this all to the doctor tomorrow and see what they have to say. I'm also gonna take it every once and a while between now and then to see if it says about the same or what.Last edited: Dec 26, 2010

If it is consistantly a bit low, the doc will likely back off on the dosage size or try a different med. The good news is you are responding to the med. Now just a matter of fine tuning.
Katey Thanks this. -
I took it on my other wrist this time and got 113/65 so a little higher but still low I believe, especially the bottom number.
I hope fine tuning is all it needs, if so maybe I won't have to push back my school or if so only by a couple weeks. -
Sorry to hear that about your DOT pys..Sammy is right.
I have normal blood presure reading 120/70 or so but as soon as I get in a situation where I am nervous..Say like getting my DOT pys or when the company took it during orientation it shot up..Just from being freaked out a little..Do what sammy says and also calm down.Everything will be ok.You are young and trust me you can bounce any if this stuff off.
Youth is on your side. -
thats a great number. not low at all
Has any one talked about keeping a log or journal?Katey Thanks this. -
Katey, The other thing that helps folks out is, DO NOT drink soda or eat heavy before you go in. Anything with Caffine will actually boost your BP. I'm sure you were just stressed and you will go in tomorrow and all will be normal. Try running to CVS or Walgreens and see if you can't find a pair of glasses that might help you on the vision portion...Katey Thanks this. -
Katey
Sodium huge huge huge -really pay attention again it makes you retain fluid and this will cause your BP to go up.
Exercise- walk get up and move.
Caffine absolutely NOT cut back on what ever you can soda, coffee, tea, chocolate.
Stress not alot to do about but try to do some relaxation deep breathing
YES keep a log and metion when you go to the doctors you think you have 'white coat syndrome' When they check your BP in the office important that you do have the right size cuff and if you have a big arm ask for the bigger cuff. Ask them to let you rest and NOT get your BP right after you walk to the room and sit. That day and previous avoid all the ''bad stuff'.
Sounds like what you are doing is already working. I still think those readings from the MD were false highs from the stress and repeated taking of your BP.

Katey, I feel your pain I was all hyped up to drive and now wonder if I should bother trying. My B/P s 140/90 on a goo day and has been for years, and I have ringing in my ears making it hard to hear voices. Not sure if I can pass the hearing part of the physical. Sitting hear trying to fihure out how to get that problem fixed with no aanswers coming fast. Keep taking the meds. and keep your spirits up! YOU CAN DO THIS! Good luck.
Hey Sammycat, Got any ideas for the tinitis? It drives me crazy trying to hear voices over the ringing! Thanks.
