So, my wife and I just finished school (United States Truck Driving School in Longmont Colorado) and have decided to go with US Xpress as they are pet friendly and if I want to drive with my wife, she comes with the dog. We were supposed to start orientation in Irving TX today but found out last week that we have to have the hard copy (with the picture on it) CDL. Recruiter should have mentioned that when he set us up for the 27th since he knew we were in school. Not really a big deal. The State of Colorado is pretty quick and we are now scheduled for Jan 10th instead, assuming our licenses arrive in time. They should as the CDL permits only took a week and a half to arrive. IF we get them in the mail by this Wednesday we can make the Jan 3rd Orientation. Fingers are crossed. We are very excited about this adventure. All of the kids are grown and we are heading out. I have seen almost every inch of this country from 35,000 feet and I am very much looking forward to seeing it up close. I will update as we move forward.

Will they allow you to train together? I have heard that some companies will do that.

Covenant does that. I cannot imagine cramming three people into a truck. US Xpress training is only three weeks. We can handle that. Also, good news, our hard copy CDL's came in the mail today. The State of Colorado took only seven days to get them to us. We are now leaving on New Years Day and Orientation begins Jan 3rd. Very happy

Thank you, I am not too worried about it, My wife was a bit dismayed by the 78 pounds in your one post. 48 pounds is much more doable for her.

That's not the hard part. It's the 100lb push. It's really difficult

The State of Colorado got our hard copy CDL's to us in seven days, pretty amazing. We took and passed the Hazmat test and got fingerprinted yesterday. Getting on the bus tomorrow heading to Dallas for orientation on Monday. So ready to be working.

I am presently "broke down" at the Irving terminal. If I'm still here on Monday I'll try to interrupt class to say "HI". I did my Orientation here and Dodd is a cool teacher.

Here is a hint for your wife (I am not strong). I am 5'5" tall and in order to put the milk crate of dumbbells on the top shelf I just rested it on my chest and then pushed it up there. As for the 100lb push, if I could do it I would think most anyone could. The hardest part is that it's up against the wall higher than your head.
