and how do you do this exactly? you send them a 'sympathy' card or something? any 'relationship repair' isnt done by drivers, its done by the CSR...the one who has direct relations between the customer and the company. We might 'smooth things over', but honestly, i dont give a rats az what another driver did or didnt do. the only thing i can do is my best. I get paid to worry about myself.....not to babysit.
just rocked the boat

dickjones, you seem to be the only one that see's a little bit where I'm coming from on this.
But like I said, yall gave me some things to think about, and next time I'll be better prepared to handle it more professionally.scottied67 Thanks this. -
I agree, get to the shipper and get loaded. If you can't go any further, drop the trailer and bobtail some place where you can eat and shower.
You are then using the tractor for private transportation, not to haul commercially. -
I think ya did the best you could as a newbie under the circumstance's , remember the dispatcher could care less if you go over hours, cant find a legal place to park. His job is to get as many loads as possible, and they are always making promise's to thier customers, regardless if you can make it or not !! Im sure these other driver's are forgetting what happen's if you are parked illegally.
You are in control of the truck and are responsible for your action's . Yes I agree try to get to the shipper but do it legal and have a plan for what to do and where to go.The Challenger, TruckrsWife, RobertSmith and 1 other person Thank this. -
The Point that your missing DJ, that Injun is making, is that as the driver your the front line face that the customer sees.
You, and every other driver, are literally the face's of Swift Transport. Each and every time you show up at the shipper or receiver, you are making an impression on them about their choice to use Swift as their carrier of choice.
Decisions like Robert made can and do have drastic consequences.
Just something to keep in mind, for the next time you go the customers window with a bad attitude.Injun Thanks this. -
Thank you, MisterG. I don't feel like dealing with any vitriole today.

Well this is just turning into an arguement which wasn't the intent.
Can we just end this thread at this:
I learned some other options on how to deal with this, Ie, call the shipper, explain to the dm better whats happening, check into suprise tcalls and dispatchs better, But I will still protect my cdl, and stay legal no matter what all the old truckers try and tell me i have to be illegal to make money.
No need to keep fighting, I made a call, right or wrong, I learned some from yall, thanks for your input.
Just found out the shipper closed at 5pm anyway, I wouldn't have made it in time to get loaded.Last edited: Dec 28, 2010

RS,
I would have sent my DM a message saying "I do not have the hours to run the next load that needs to be picked up after T'Calling this load at location. However, I will be available for dispatch date and time. More polite way of dealing with the DM and not rocking the boat. If he pressed further, I would have said what you said. You had a live unload which can take forever. I know as thats all I did for my six months; reefer live load and unload. Out of curiosity, what was the load exactly????
