If you don't trust the school - why go there? That confuses me (although confusing me isn't a hard thing to do - LOL)

Welcome and ask away.
Dispatchers deal with all walks of life and many questions they will give you a multiple meaning answer or one that will make you temporarily happy. They are good at playing with words. Build a good relationship and most are straight up then.
Anyone can drive. Good drivers know and respect the laws of the road. They have the ability to read traffic way beyond the average driver. They know how to leave outs for emergency situations. They have eyes on the back of their head. They know how to manage their time and get loads delivered on time. They know how to manage stress and not get mad...
Recruiters lie. Many will paint a false picture. Most companies you'll have to earn your stripes the first year. It's tough emotionally and financially and many can't handle it. After your first year it gets much better. The forum is a great tool.Romans6:23, Lady K and pure Monkey Thank this. -
I did understand the first part about trusting in this biz..,Let me put it to you this way,Before I started trkn,I thought I was one of the bad guys in the world....Man oh man,was I wrong....After dealing with brokers, dispatchers and company recruiters who are 1st Class liars...My advice is move very very carefully in this business,do your homework on everyone and everything as if you are a P.I.,and this is all before you even step INTO the truck...To Be Continued???

yes guess it doesn't make a lot sense.. I picked a school close to home,, 3 week course,,and seems to be on the up and up, had a recuriter from Warner in and just don't know if what they tell you is really all that they say it is. The school only gets me a CDl, But my concerns is training with a company..I liked what warner had to say but agian I have trust issues.
I really just came on to say hello,, may-be I better think before I post.. -

Not a problem - Hubby and I are also going through a '3 week course' (aka driver mill)... but ours is with Central and the school is TDA. So far so good - wishing you the best with your choice. I have a feeling they are all pretty much the same - and with the conditions given in the first year it will tend to weed out the ones that really don't want to drive... kind of like Boot Camp
Of course with the Armed Forces the recruiters there don't exaggerate or stretch the truth at all

There are no stupid questions. The industry you are about to join is incredibly complex, with a cross-section of humanity involved. Some you can trust, others you will (but shouldn't have), others you can't and yet others should probably be in prison.
All of the training companies have a huge amount of trucks on the road, and they are not all driven by people in their first few months of driving. To take one name at random, Swift. There are people with years of experience driving for Swift who make a living, get home occasionally and are generally satisfied with their employer, otherwise they would have moved on. The Swift trucks I see up here in Canada seem to be in good condition, late models and being driven professionally.
Don't take too much of what you hear or read as gospel. People generally seem to want to talk up the bad, and forget the good.
Incidentally, read through your posts before you hit "Send". Just make sure you are satisfied with your words before you subject them to a mauling. We are truckers here (and therefore kind, caring and generous people), but this is still the Internet, and as you know, the 'net can be a pretty unforgiving place.pure Monkey Thanks this. -
So you had a Werner recruiter in? Remember, a recruiter's job is to get you to the company. Once you get to the terminal, their job is done. In Omaha, there are Werner trainees filling hotels waiting for trucks/trainers. Once you get going, it is a decent company to TRAIN with... until you can get your time in and go somewhere else. Swift is also a good training company, and many stay there for a long time. Just be wary, check your facts, and use this forum. On that, though... remember we are all individuals, and truckers have a reputation for whining, etc. Always double and triple check stories. Some drivers will never be happy anywhere, are always "getting screwed" by this or that company... and some are content where they are.
