Usually if you take the bus to Brooks, you'll get the trainer the day the orientation ends.

    Hello Driver -

No problems here at May Trucking Company. Sounds like more of a timing issue then anything else driver! Tis the holiday season. You get to be home for Christmas, enjoy your time while your home. You will have all the time in the world on the road brother!

    Take care ,

    Trucker Steve

The problem in Phoenix is that the guy doing the orientation was fired last Friday and they dont have a replacement yet. I just solo'd out last Thursday and am still waiting on a truck, everything slowed down for the holidays but it will pick right back up again, people still have to get there stuff to stores. I talked to a few drivers at the Phoenix yard this morning and some have been sitting since last Tuesday. I was also told that some were not getting the miles they were used to{ 900 a week} maybe its the season or the economy, I will wait until after the holidays, if nothing changes, I'm outta here.

May has 13 speed trucks and yes, you need to learn them all. its basically an 8 speed with high and low for each speed after 4th gear once you splitter up to 5th you use the high / low. when you first go into 5th your in 5th low your next shift is to 5th high then to 6th low and 6th high and so forth. It seems a little confusing at first but if I can do it anyone can. I just solo'd out at May and also went to southwest trucking school. The orientation is a trip around the freeway and then through the skills course and paperwork, videos, qualcomm, and my favorite, learning to chain up your tires, if you get that far then you'll be assigned a trainer and you'll be gone for about three weeks. Todd was my trainer, once your ready to solo off, you will be required to go through the skills course again followed by another driving test and a knowledge test to see what you have learned, so pay attention and check your mirrors, check your mirrors, check your mirrors. Good luck and welcome to May......

Anybody know if May will be hiring out of Maine???. This sounds like an awesome outfit. Reminds me of my days in the Navy. Comraderie is there and that is important to me.

Wow. I can't believe he got canned, if it's the guy I'm thinking of. He was only in that position for a few months! In fact, recently replaced the woman who did orientation for me when I started back in August. Not sure what happened to her.

To the best of my memory the answer is no. The reason is too far out of their freight lanes and no way to reasonably get you home.
The best way for straight answers is to call a recruiter at the Brooks terminal (main office ).

Wow!!! The one and only, Trucker Steve answered my post here. :biggrin_25514: What's cool about this is that I have watched many of your videos on You Tube and have enjoyed every one of them. I'll be on the 11 western dry van division and hope to have my own company truck by the first part of Feb. I am happy to be joining the May team. Seems that your very dedicated at what you do. Maybe if our paths cross sometime we can sit down for a cup of coffee and chew the cud. Just don't put the video spotlight on me if we do, cuz I'm a ugly Mofo. Hell, I bet lot lizards won't even bang on my truck door...LOL...Thanks for all your very useful advise here on The Truckers Report.

Well, just when I was getting all packed and ready for that 30 hour Greyhound ride from Phoenix to Brooks for Orientation on Jan 3, I get a call from Opal in Brooks. She tells me that now they are not going to bus me up there. Instead, they are going to send someone from up there down to Phoenix to facilitate the orientation on Jan 7 or 17. Man, and I was really looking forward on getting on that skanky smelling, packed, stopping for every nook and cranny in the road, listening and smelling other strangers burps and farts, unserviced commode (especially on Jan 1 when half the bus will be hungover) hell on wheels. :biggrin_2559:Good thing is that I can be home every night during orientation and learn to chain up where there won't be snow already on the ground. Bad thing is that it pushes it back 1 or 2 more weeks. I guess it all just makes me all the more "flavored" for career I'm fix'in to take on...
