I looked at the Millington training academy on Google Earth. The academy driving/skills range looked very small. The address given on SWIFT'S website is:

    7965 Veterans Pkwy., Suite 107
    Millington, TN 3805.

It is close to Memphis Naval Station, right?
Is the actual driving skills range located somewhere else?

I also see where the academies are PTDI accredited?

Yeah another 1/2 mile up the street leased from the base I believe but, on the other side from the classroom. And it's plenty large enough room to set-up 2 weeks of classes, our class was split 12 and 11 then there we're 5 stations for each group per one instructor with an extra one or so when not tied up with other things. Also enough room for them to set-up for weird states that have a mini road course as a skills test. Yes they are PTDI accredited and take that very seriously every student has an extra sheet to keep track of their hours to complete each part for PTDI reqs.

Thanks Longshot64, I found it. Right at the NAS, and yes, the range looks huge!

Yup PTI, skills are more difficult then the DMV Exams for a reason. The higher they set the bar at the school the more success you will have at the CDL exam because the boxes and distances are bigger.

So far what I have seen waiting for drivers at my terminal is 6 Volvo's, 2 Prostars and one blue T2000. I personally liked the T2000, Prostar and the Volvo in that order the likely hood of getting the KW are not so good, ProStar a little better and Volvo is most likely what I'll get. I honestly don't care as long as it's mechanically sound and not too beat on and has 10 good tires. Don't care if it smells like smoke, I smoke as long as the previous driver didn't take a Shazzat in the bunk we're GTG. So we'll see!

I don't see that happening. They are going to let the fleet get old. I have an '07 Volvo getting close to 500K on it. I have seen Freightliners with 686K and still being driven.

I will keep my Volvo over the Junkstars. Unless you get a high rise you don't have squat for storage cabinets. The Junkstars do have more elbow room and a wider bunk.

They are prone to windshield leaks, and the blower for the A/C is guaranteed to die.

Fine Mexican assembly! Mine was built in Virginia.

I have heard good things about the Volvos, especially the storage, but my PornStar is a good girl. Granted I got her with 270,000 on the clock so the bugs were already worked out.

I remember when Swift started adding the PornStar onto the fleet. We had just finished swift academy in lewiston mid 2008, headed back down by Greyhound to Salt Lake City, and we stopped at this mom and pop truck stop, and saw a Swift PornStar sitting in there. couple of us were looking at it, ooohing and aaaahing. Fast forward a couple years, after looking inside a friends PornStar, i told her i'd keep my mid-roof volvo. they have ZERO space.....
