do you also---say replace a door on a trailer?
how are you paid?--by the hour or the mile?
dont get me wrong--i do all those things--and usually for free--i just pointed out how some companys pay for sweeping out the trailer and you thought it was a bad deal
and i think they pay like 5 bucks to sweep the trailer--nothing big--but it is something
its just that if you are working, i think you should be paid for it
if you get paid layover--or detention--do you give it back to the company---???
why should you get detention--its part of the job

I know i dont log it. -
our doc guys were supposed to do it before every load--but i never saw them off of a forklift--so i pilfered a broom from the shop--i would get so embarressed when you are unloading and you can tell that 1/2 of that crap has been in there for a long time
but to many people dont give a rats ###--just shut the doors and go
now i really dont think people need to be paid extra to sweep the trailer--but i dont think they should get fined for not doing it---not sure what the answer would be---
self cleaning trailers? -

Got paid hourly for that stuff and got paid by the load.
Now I grease the fifth wheel, wash, air the tires, change the lights, etc for free.
Anyone ever hauled the used Chep pallets knows what a mess the trailer is when emptied. I delivered to Propak in Springfield MO last week. The trailer was spotless when I pulled off the dock!
Longshot64 and red S-10 Thank this. -
In my opinion, leaving a clean trailer is part of hauling the load. So what, you give up 5 minutes of time. I'm getting sick of this "it's not my job because it's not itemized on my pay stub" mentality. There are things in every job that are expected but not itemized. We basically work piece-meal. It doesn't change the fact that sweeping your crud out of the trailer is part of your job, just like a pretrip and scanning in your paperwork.
Fine. You want to get paid for the load? Sweep out the trailer. Just like if you don't get your paperwork in within a reasonable time, you will be docked the pay you may have already received. Because the company can't get paid without the paperwork either. We need to keep the customers we have and be willing to develop new markets. Two companies, each charging the same freight rate, but one always drops a clean trailer. The other can't be counted on for this little service. Which will you choose? We've lost that revenue as a direct result of drivers' actions. If it costs the company, it should cost the driver(s) responsible.
So, yes. Fine the driver. It would only take once or twice and you would see a lot more pride being taken in the quality of work. Even if that pride is insiste upon by threat of monetary loss. Set the money aside and hand it out as bonuses to drivers who have not been dinged on dirty or OOS trailers.
No, it's not Communist. It's purely Capitalist. You want to get money? Do your ****ing job.Buckeye 'bedder, red S-10, The Challenger and 5 others Thank this. -
lol...nice sentiment from most of you to want a new trailer for every load...if it needs swept out because the shipper wants it swept...I do it without complaint...if I have a choice between several trailers and one of them has an obvious problem...as a responsible company man...do I make sure the damaged one gets fixed before I drive away with the good one? Let him who has walked away from a damaged trailer cast the first stone!....just sayin'

It doesn't take long, maybe 10-15 minutes, to sweep out a trailer. It's just that simple!
Texas-Nana Thanks this.
