Straight Pipe Woes

Talking about loud pipes reminded me what a class mate and I did in the 10th grade.

In agri during the 10th grade a friend and I was left alone in the building during that period. The back of the agri building had two large doors, and about 60' across from it was the study hall. It was warm weather and the windows were up and study hall was in session.

He and I got to thinking about that 2 HP gas engine setting in the shop, how it would sound if we took the muffle off, hook up galvanized water pipe, and run it out the back door and about half way to the study hall window, we would have gone all the way but we ran out of pipe, we would rev up the engine, and let off of it.

I can tell you it made a terrible loud sound, trouble was the study hall teacher came over to the study hall window and peeped out saw the pipe and of course heard the noise coming from it, and knew something was going on it the agri shop that should not. She knew who to call to get this situation took care of. Yet she was not the only one, it seems every teacher on that side of the building plus a few teachers on the other side of the building went to the office complaining about the terrible racket coming from the agri building.

Yet we had our fun, started taking pipe off the little gas engine, and in walked our agri teacher before we got it all off and put back in its place. There was no smile on Mr. Stavelys face, quickly our smiles left our face. He only said, "Boys, get that pipe put back up, and the muffler back on, them come to my desk, we have to have a discussion."

That was all he said, and we both knew we were going to have a hot seat from his big paddle, and that's exactly what we got. He tore both of us up. And it seemed by the time we got our seats set on fire, everyone in high school was talking about the racket we made, and the whopping Mr. Stavley gave us.

Neither Perry and I got in trouble during agri again while attending the 11th or 12th grade, Mr. Stavely made a believer out of us and we behaved our self in his class. There's nothing like a good whooping in school to teach school children what they are not to do. I can testify to that fact.

 

so what are you saying- everyone running straights should get a whooping?

 

Today the teacher would have lost his job, been sued for millions of dollars, and thrown in jail. Too bad teachers cannot actually discipline kids today in schools. We might just have a few less buttheads coming out that don't know how to do anything but whine about how nothing is fair to them.

Wow, In my driving days I drove 2 Intl's, I hated both of them. The long nose one was the worst riding truck I was ever in, the cab over 318 Detroit & was the sickest truck I ever set in.

 

No, its to late, you needed that whopping when you were young.

As I stated, this topic reminded of that day many years ago. If you care not for it, just ignore it, that's what I have to do when one of those loud truck comes along.

 

down boy down i dont need a whooping i used to straight pipe my trucks but the older i get the more i like the quiet rumble. but then again my wife would like to whoop me for other reasons.
