If anyone wants info on the honor program, I just got accepted into it and so far everything seems fine. It seems they have one dedicated recruiter to handle just hon. prog. applicants and he is great to work with. Very helpful, answers all questions, and he's very clear and specific about the benefits and salary. I start RDTC on May 21st. I was accepted into the 7/7 van fleet no problem. He made sure to let me know, though, that for the first 4-6 weeks after you're on your own you have to do 7/4/7/3 and then move to 7/7. Something about getting enough solo experience under your belt before you go a week between driving. That's no problem for me though. It actually shows they're thinking about safety for their new drivers. I also sent in my VA benefit application yesterday so I will try to report on when I ever see that money(I hate gov't backlogs!). I am very pleased with this company and I haven't even started yet! Looking forward to good things.

Hey I was online and saw this.

bucksanducks, who in the H put you above the people pulling vans???If you wanna be out there in all kinds of weater chaining and tarping loads thats your business. But dont think for one minute that just because you elected to pull a flatbed that you are any better or more valuable than anyone else.Having been out there for many years, and yeah pulling vans ,I have seen a lot of knuckleheaded jerks pulling flatbeds. So get off your soapbox,I am not interested in your BS.

Flatbedding isn't rocket science but it does take a little more skill and knowledge than opening and closing doors. It also gives you a little exercise which the majority of truck drivers could use. In my opinion pulling a van is boring and the lanes suck. If I'm going to be out here I might as well make the extra money instead sitting on my can all day. Also, when flat freight gets slow I can pull a curtain or a van. If you only pull a van then all you can do is sit in the drivers' lounge and whine.
Be a man don't pull a van, if you're old and hurtin', at least pull a curtain. -
Hey everyone i just got back from my orientation with roehl. I am a happy camper so to speak. I had my orientation in ellenwood georgia and let me tell you all that roehl has great people working for them. They are so respectful and helpful. I stayed at the best western hotel which was very nice. The food we ate was great. They gave me the keys to the shuttle van to go back and forth to hotel so i wouldnt have to use my car. But most inportant I learned alot at orientation. The first day we went out for a road test so they could see how we did. I did good will have to clean up a little on shifting but I know that comes with experience and getting used to the truck. We had a test on hazmat which i scored a 100 on. The rest of the time we filled out paperwork, and learned alot about safety. I am schedualed to start my evolution 1 with the trainer on sunday may 13th. I am so excited about working for roehl. They keep there trucks and trailers in great shape. They dont use recap tires which is a plus. I am very happy that i decided to sign on with roehl. I will keep you all enformed on how things are going. Good luck you all and safe trucking.:smt073

Well heres one van hauler who never sat around the drivers lounge and whined.Hauling vans is just like anything else,do a good job and Roehl will keep you busy. You are still coming on with that holier than thou attitude.Lets face it regardless of what kind of trl.you pull, its a hard job out there. And just because you decided to pull flats doesnt make you any better or smarter than anyone else on the road.As for the ones who sit around the drivers lounge whining, they are the ones who cannot make their deliveries on time,do good trip planning, etc.Every truckin co.has a certain amount of them, and it seems its always the same ones.Yeah I am retired now and plan on staying retired this time, but I know I can still get out there and run with the best of them if it ever comes down to that.As for the old timers out there, most of them are better safer drivers than the younger crowd, not thru being smarter, but just from the experience they have had on the road.

[Be a man don't pull a van, if you're old and hurtin', at least pull a curtain.]? What kind of crack is that? You like flatbed. Many don't. You say you are not above anyone but with statements like that one you come across as a wiseguy. My husband doesn't whine either. He doesn't run the northeast all the time either. He gets miles also. Like Road Dog stated there are always a group that will complain no matter what. For a couple of cents more a mile, climbing up and down and tarpping loads isn't worth it in my book but hey if you like acting like a monkey climbing around the top of a load than go for it.

can anyone tell me if Roehl allows pets in the cab?
-
I think that I saw on their web site that they had a no pet policy.
