That's like... why does the bulldog on a Mack ride on the hood? Because he doesn't want anyone seeing ride inside that POS.

As long as I'm getting paid to drive it, I don't really give a S*%T.

Hey, just repeating a joke - drove a Mack 613 day cab for a gillion miles for Matlack before they went under. OTR in a day cab, hotels and Denny's every night - no wonder they went under! Miss that gig...

After 30+ years of driving, I'm kinda a Pete fan, like Paccar products in general of the rest. Seem to have less rattles and the leg room beside the pedals is better in them. Not much of a 387 fan, lots of blind spots with that wide cab, and the cabnets rattle all the time. Drove an old one from TMC, rode nice, but noisy. Presently running a 06 379 with flex air suspension. Nice ride, tight cab no rattles, no air leaks with 700,000 miles. I'm under 18,000 with me in truck 1/2 tank of fuel and all my junk for the week. Just seems like Paccar stuff lasts longer than the rest.

I love the 379/389, whatever you want to all them, but at 6'1"/ 250 lbs., I've got to agree with dude about getting in the sleeper. You #### near have to be a troll to get in a flat top! But you look good rollin' down the road, hold their value too. Just like the w9's, I love them, but I can put the passenger window down w/o stretching, I just need more room. The Macks and Volvos are, so far as I'm concerned, set up most conveniently, at least in the cab. I feel like everything is in a more logical place, kind of where it should be, just feels right, for me.
It's like was stated earlier, it's all in how they're maintained. I guess I just like trucks too #### much, that's why I do this, ain't too many people who enjoy their job as much as most of us do. Hell, the fortunate ones get to take their work home with them every night and still love it! Myself, I'm working on getting my own, life long goal, and the time finally feels right.
Fault can be found with all makes if you try. Why don't people just try to enjoy the little time they have and quitcherbitchin'? Sorry, didn't mean to get all philosophical. :biggrin_2559: :biggrin_25525:

While the big stuff (engine, trans, diffs) can be the same, there can be a significant difference in the quality of electrical, air lines and overall fit/finish and assembly between brands. These differences may not be obvious on the highway but are more pronounced in off road applications.

Personally I like them all, but I mainly fix them. What I have noticed over the years is that lots of truckers like the long hoods, lots of chrome and lights, air cleaners hanging off the fender, and no side fairings. They will spend a lot of money on polish and lights, and go broke. They do look good all the way to the poor house!
The best truck out there is the one that makes you money, allows you to pay for it, and save enough to buy your next new one. I laugh at guys telling me it is an investment, BS, it is a truck.

I drove a Pete 379 ex-hood, and it was a nice truck rolling down the road. But my favorite truck to date is the older International 9400. Nice ride for the wheelbase, comfortable driver, dash controls set up really nicely, and the sleeper was just right for me when I was running as a solo. Since I did alot of East Coast crap, I loved the shorter wheelbase for fitting into those tighter docks.

Some of these guys actually think it "IS" an investment.
I ran across a 2007 379 legacy. Awesome truck. 320 wb, 625 under the hood, done up right, 35K on the ticker. Basically new, but 4 years old and no warranty. A little too long, but I could make it work fine with what I wanted to do with it. I offered the guy 95K thinking I could buy the truck for somewhere where it's worth, maybe around 100-105K. Maybe a little more once I saw it in person and liked it, but we never got that far.
The guy got all po-ed on the phone at me and told me that the truck will sit for anything under 135K. For 135K, someone could have Pittsburgh Power build a new 389 stretched kit with a 4 more inches of hood and a real engine..

I guess some of these guys think the "Legacy" thing carries some weight, like they will be selling them at Barrett-Jackson in a few years. Meanwhile, I imagine there may be some guys who would fall for the 135K, and good for the owner if he could get his preceived value turned into cash.
