Yeah, I guess so. But again, their earnings rival that of someone driving for a couple years at another company.

Sorry that I confused you. I was referring to a member on here that is training with Swift. How I didn't want what happened to him to happen to me.

The recruiter at W/S told me all of this over the phone.

I don't know what happened but i'm trying to get in touch with the safety dept. now. I want to know if something is on my DAC i don't know about. I got an updated DAC report about a month ago, so i think she had me confused with someone else or something!!!

No, I know the SWIFT thread you are talking about. That was absolutely disgusting behavior by that "mentor".

You are saying the W/S recruiter told you this all on the phone before they decided you were a "no-go"? Still, thats a shame. Just because of your school. I went to a podunk school in SoCal and after a couple of years of accident-free driving, I'd put my safety habits and driving skills up against anyone from any other school.

Finally spoke to the safety director, David and he told me i was turned down because there were "Better Qualified Applicants"!!! I can completely understand that and i just didn't understand what the recruiter told me. Good luck to all with W&S!!!

"Better Qualified Applicants" = new guys that will work cheaper. Someone like you going to W&S with 4 years under your belt would be disgusted at what they would start you off at. The newbie's only get $.25 per mile. Now, the miles sound pretty good according to the drivers that post on here. I'm sure they just didn't want to get into an argument over pay for an experienced person.

No I'm sorry I confused the hell out of you. What happened was I applied online and she e-mailed me stating that I am not qualified. She made a mistake in reading my application and realized it and called me up. On the phone she apologized and told me that I would be in fact qualified to go down to North Carolina to do orientation.

Everything sounded good over the phone except having to drive to Sayreville, NJ to drop off truck. I'd much rather be in a position where I could bobtail home or drop off a truck at a truck stop. There is a truck stop literally 2 miles from my house. That would be much easier for me. I don't know if this is the norm though in trucking because I never went OTR. If this is just the way things are then I guess it would be foolish of me not to take the job because it's the only opportunity I currently have and I'm loving the fact that I don't have to be with a stranger learning for 6+ weeks.

I really wish I lived closer to these terminals. It seems a lot of terminals are in PA and NJ. It seems NOTHING is in CT. The only terminals I have seen in CT so far is Cowan Systems has one up in East Hartford.

Not true, it is not about hiring newbie's. My wife and I just received our CDL's and were referred to WS by a team currently driving for them. We even checked with WS before we went to school and they thought the school we wanted to attend was great. They told us that they would give us a prehire letter once we had the UA and medical exam. When we sent them, we received the same email - "better qualified applicants". No idea what is up or what criteria they are using. They knew we were students nad they had our applications from long before we started school. I do know that they are a good company and their drivers are pretty happy. We ended up with US Xpress and we are very happy. The $5,000 signing bonus for a HazMat team did not hurt either.

Probably wasn't you, it was probably me. After all, I HAVE been referred to as a "rock" before.

    :biggrin_2559:

I see now. Yeah, the reason you'd have to drop it off is because they probably don't have any freight up near where you live and it would be a long deadhead to get you home.

    Ever consider moving?

EZ Money and davect Thank this.
