theres a local company around here that has been around for years. these guys pass me when i'm doing 70 like i'm not even there, i know they're pushing 85. never do they ever get pulled over. i was thinkin about maybe driving them they are hiring, if i just go get a passenger endorsement but i think i'd end up freaking out on all the people one day lol

I dunno... I'm not sure I would base my decision on the speed of the vehicle. But then again, I drive like my grandmother used to anyway...slow as molasses. Pisses my wife (and other drivers) off to no end!

First I have to say - go Bears hehe

I know everyone has their own experience/opinion on the matter but I actually enjoy that fact. As far as the work, when I was working at a different transportation company, the difference was like night and day compared to who I am with now while doing the same thing. This industry is heavily regulated as well and Chicago is notorious for developing revenue systems that are solely for the revenue rather than promoting social safety and responsibility, if you get my drift. But that is old news. It happens with every industry and with every state. There are many laws that do serve the good, that are necessary for the implementation of business regulation and high safety standards.

As far as greyhound, I had an interview with them set up and the director liked my resume. After talking with many drivers, I discovered that the on call system creates havoc. If one does not have a dedicated route, there is an on call system. Many people wait years for a dedicated route. The on call system means that a driver has to be at the station within 2 hours of the call. Be it 2am or not, you have to take that call. Which means 24 hours a day, 7 days a week drivers are on call without any sense of planning anything outside of work for years. It's funny, most drivers I talk to now in this industry don't have any hobbies anymore, their whole life is at the whim of work and I thought that was sad. I love work, but not at the cost of everything else in my life. I am the kind of person that needs some balance with everything that is important to me. I am still working on it but I have gained much ground.

I couldn't drive a bus. I prefer my freight not be able to talk back.

Hells yeah I'd do it again! Yeah, there are problems in the industry. But then there are the days (for me it was every morning) when you wake up with a big goofy grin on your face, thinking "Oh boy, Oh boy, I gets to drive me a BIG TRUCK!!!!"

AMEN!!! My dad was trying to talk me into getting my passenger endorsement several years ago and drive bus for Madison Metro. I told him 'NO WAY'. I don't deal well with that kind of mess.

Trucking has always been fun. The last 5 years or so, it just keeps getting worse and worse. We went from total freedom to being put under a microscope. It won't be long you'll fart and they'll want you to log it down.
Companies in the highly competitive market keep having to cut corners. Alot of them corners come out of the drivers pay and benefits.
Even with all the negatives, I been home on medical leave for three months and I'm itching to go back.

Very few are cut out for trucking. But the ones that are, can't get enough and can't get away. It gets in your blood.

    haha

I think the worse thing is having 30 people who drive (not for a living) sitting behind me always evaluating performance. And the locals always know a better way to get somewhere - their way. But I know I am a good driver so I do not worry about it too much.
